Default Battery Tender

How does the battery tender work being connected from the trunk? It seems if you close the trunk all the way it will break or damage the cord. If you leave the trunk even partially open the light stays on.

From what I understand the lights will shut off after a few minutes even with the trunk lid left unlatched.

Closing the trunk doesn't damage the cord or rubber seal. I leave mine lowered but open though, and the light goes out in 10 minutes.

Alright. Thanks. The service people at a local dealership had no answer for me.

The seal is very soft, it will not hurt the cord. If you don't like that, as some have noted, anything you leave on such as a map light will shut down in about 10 minutes, it's a battery saver feature. Another tip I use suggested by a forum poster, since the connection is in the rear, is a sign! I made an 8 x 10 sheet that says, " Battery Charger Installed" and I put it on the windshield when I connect the charger. Reminds me not to run over it!

I just shut my lid on the cord; doesn't hurt a thing. Just have to remember to disconnect it before backing out of garage.

Default battery tender

I posted the same question a while back. my concerns were the same as yours. The AC line into the charger is 110/120 and if damaged or compressed may cause a overheating condition. The side connecting to the battery is lowered. i would keep the lid up and you will not have a worry. i have been investigating fires for 30 years and your concern is legitimate.

[QUOTE[/QUOTE]

Did that fire start at the rear as the result of a faulty tender?

Default Tender

This fire is still under investigation. It appears to originate in right side of dash. No charger was involved.

Well it depends how far the electrical plug is from your car !!! It doesn't matter which side I park on because I have plugs near the car on both sides of the garage !!! I can just go out the window !! Just fish the wiring to the old plug from the ceiling and find a closer spot to your car and put in a new plug !!! Wayne

You can also take a screwdriver & push the latch down manually which will shut off the lights.

I own the car almost six months, have not let the car sit long enough to use the tender. As December draws to a close I'm sure the time will come.

Good info. I was wondering about this today when I realized there was no way to hook up my Deltran Battery Tender quick connector cord in the engine compartment, and bought a 12V male power outlet cable to plug into the 12V power outlet in the hatch.

I heard it was because of the round tail lights.

Does the console or "cig lighter" outlets not remain hot? In the past, many have used it, fishing a cord thru a slightly open window to power a "maintainer."

Actually there is. I just did it yesterday. I used the + stud on the fuse box and the ground stud near the alternator.

Please post some images of the two contact points, I would prefer this method vs. the trunk connection on my vert.

Yes, please. I think I know where you are talking about, but a picture would definitely help.
