Default Was There Ever an Official Nurburgring Time for the C7 Announced?

I tried to Google this today and GM was very mum on any actual times. So my speculation is that it might have been faster than the Z28 or embarrassingly slow? Any thoughts on this and has there ever been a direct comparison between the Z28 and Z51 C7?

my money is on the z28 and slower c7 lap times than a z51 c6.. This is almost entirely based upon my possibly wrong understanding that the c7 has narrower tires, and my very limited experience with a single c7 on a track I was also on, and also a fast lz1 'ro...

I'm not trollling, I just think tire size is a huge factor in road racing. I too cannot think of any other reason GM hasn't posted and bragged about ring times for the c7.. They will sell every z28 they make, so why worry about embarrassing that product?

Here's a hint: in a few weeks they are taking the standard Z51 and the Z06 to the Ring, thus you will see the numbers AFTER they run them.

Z28 will post slightly faster lap times than the c7 z51 at most tracks so it's conceivable still the ring the z28 continues it's slightly faster times and since it's not a bragging point for corvette the corporation kept it quiet for the launch year.

Now that the 79 grand base price z06 is about to release......along with the c7 z06 z07......gm will most likely post the times of both the z06 and the z51...

Remember the ultra wide tires, a/c delete no radio bare bones 75 grand z28 is truly a track monster where as the stingray z51 is a full on luxury GT in comparison.

Both great cars....with different focuses.

Hope this helps....

I also found it interesting that a recent post with video showed an experienced driver could not generate a better 0-60 time than 4.8+ seconds, while one of the engineers could only do a 5.15 or worse, I believe and that was using launch control. They attibuted the "slow" times to the slippery surface at the time.

My thought was maybe they couldn't get the camaro to perform to the level they wanted or expected. From what I understand the Z28 still weighs a hefty 3840 lbs and a the Z51 C7 is at 3350. At only a 45 hp and 10 lb-ft bump I wouldn't think the Z28 has much advantage due to the added weight. The biggest advantage the Z28 has is those crazy trofeo tires. I saw them in person at the dealership and they looked near illegal and could probably be quite dangerous in wet weather.

So it's quite possible the Z51 hung right in there or close enough such that using equivalent tires would close the gap where the Z51 would best the times of the Z28. All with air conditioning, full stereo system and for $17K less. My suspicion is that GM is holding off with the times so the Z28s don't gather dust on the showroom.

Besides the wide tires, the Z28 also has the brakes from a C6 ZR1, springs and roll bars specially designed for the track, special shocks designed for track use, and a special rear differential that is just as good as the eLSD used in the Z51, and maybe even better.

My understanding is that they only built 500 of the 2014 Z28's. That's a special limited edition model(and far less than the 37,000 C7's built), that you would expect to sell out quickly, yet my dealer has a red Z28 on his showroom floor, and I know of other dealers that also have unsold units on their showroom floor. I don't believe that the C7 and the Z28 are aimed at the same market, thus showing times of both is not going to affect the sales of either. Why should GM care which car you buy as long as they sell either a C7 or a Z28 to you, instead of you buying a Mustang or challenger or a Porsche, etc.

GM has announced the times on the Z28(on a day that was not the best day for getting the best times), but not the C7(that was also run at the Ring at the same time and caught on video with the Z28). Does make you wonder why they elected to post the times of the Z28 and not the C7.

I can find a video of a Camo'd 2016 Cruze(but no posted times) at the Ring, but no video of a C7 at the Ring. I wonder why.

I know we all know this, but tires are the one thing we all change over the life of a car, and the single most important thing for track times given similar cars.

I put very little weight in these times unless the tires are the same or very similar. I'm sure the c6z07 advantage over the c6z06 time (7:42 compared to 7:22 I think) was MOSTLY due to tires (GY F1 SC vs. PSC). I'd guess 80%. Yes, I know the other differences.. Carbon brakes? a couple seconds tops, I bet.. If the Z28 has better rubber for track, it will give faster times than a c7.

Can't wait to see the times as a nice benchmark, but other than weather and driver, tires need to be considered.

Why should C7 owners be embarrassed or concerned about Z28 lap times? I'm not. The Z28 is a limited production $75K factory race car. I'm sure the new Z06 will post some pretty impressive lap times.

I get the bragging rights a good Ring times brings, I mean how often do we play that card when another manufacture builds a faster car like the Hellcat so we whip out - yea, so what's it's lap time at the Ring?

There will always be faster cars than the Vette. If you loose sleep at night because the Z28 is faster I suggest you sell your Vette and buy a Z28, then the world will be right for you.
