LOL at thinking Chevrolet CS will reply to this thread with any definitive information.

Respectfully, we are beating a dead horse. If you have the equipment, change your own oil and be done with it. Now a days, you can get Mobil 1 Synthetic and a quality oil filter on sale for under $40. With the aggravation you are causing yourself, it is worth the $40 to do it yourself. If you are that passionate about the issue, write a letter to GM.

many don't want to change their own oil - for many reasons
some dealers are saying they can't change until 20%
some will change at any %, 4 free times within 2 years
some will give away Mobil 1 for free, others charge...
there is a huge anomaly in the system and dealers are acting diff all across the nation
no dead horse at all....
BTW, I change my own, don't want a dealer near my car except for warranty items...

I can definitely understand if someone does not want to change their own oil, but now I think it has been vetted that a lot of dealers will not do the free oil change until ~20%. I think we all know dealers are going to do what they want and it will depend on the relationship you have with that dealership.

Hi guys,
Based on the Chevrolet 2-Year Scheduled Maintenance Official Guidelines, we do recommend you change your oil based on the oil life monitoring system. If you would prefer to follow aggressive service intervals, the dealer must honor your request for the oil change regardless of percentage. However, this is limited to four service events within 2 years or 24,000 miles.

Now that Cust Svc has replied, I wonder what a dealer who refuses service unless the DIC says 20% would do with their printed reply.

Thanks Glen ...And thanks Melissa too, for putting in writing what some dealers already knew but some dealers did not.
I'm curious if this is a Corvette-only policy or can owners of other Chevrolets now request oil changes at way less than 20% ?

Thank a dealer who follows common sense. I'm old school, changed the oil at 1150 miles, 93% remaining. Dealer's team put Mobil 1 without me asking. In fact they gave me that look and said, we always put Mobil 1 in corvette's. All for free. Not one bad look or comment. Done. If they keep this up I may become more of a GM fan. Ok, ok, one thing at a time.

Yes I agree..also thanks for posting the original question regarding this matter Gken e..my selling dealer refuses to change my oil yet ( despite being given four free oil changes supposedly in two years). I was told after one year they would do an oil change if I don't reach the " under 20%". That's ridiculous IMO.

My dealer said I need to wait for 7000 miles. I blew my top . After asking to see the manager , the manager saids when car is at least 8-9 months old I'll get a free oil change . Like he was doing me a big favor

GM realize a person who changes oil less than the oil % gauge device is foolish & they are trying to reeducate them

Dealer asked me if I bought my car there. I told them no. They looked up my vin#, then agreed to go ahead and change the oil. A little screwy, but that's the way it worked.

They changed it at 60% without question ----- no fun at all

I went in for an oil change today (this dealer previously said it must be 20% or less) and I was going to ask him about the 20% rule and he told me that Chevy HQ recently told them already that it oil life meter doesn't matter anymore and to do it when the customer wants it as the customers get 4 services in 24K miles to use as they like. I was quite pleased. Thank you Chevy!
