A year ago today...
...my 2001 Corvette convertible was hit by a red light runner.
The car was supercharged, an automatic, had over 130k miles on it, and I loved driving it. I knew before the night was done that the car was as good as gone.
State Farm blew me away with what they were willing to compensate me with for loss, and pretty much changed my outlook from "I'm going to struggle to recreate this car" to "I'm going to do something I've always wanted, a National Corvette Museum delivery of a brand new, to-my-spec Corvette".
A few months since taking delivery, and my Stingray is everything I could hope a replacement Corvette could be, and then some. I think one of the amusing parts of owning it so far is that I'm having to force myself to want to do any mods to it, while with the C5 it was all I could to stop the "mod bug" from continuing to bite.
That's not to say the C5 was bad, but in fact speaks volumes for how well you could make it "your Corvette" even if you weren't the original owner. The C7 is going to give me plenty of "miles of smiles", and I feel extremely lucky to own one considering what led up to this point.
Here's to many more years of being one hell of a happy Corvette owner!

It's awesome that you were able to turn something so awful in to such a positive. Here's to many miles of smiles in your Stingray.

Had to be a heartbreak to lose the C5, but I'd say you replaced it with an awesome car.

Know your pain as many years ago lent my 427 Sting Ray to a friend to impress his date. We had recently moved to Iowa and a freak ice storm hit. The 427 with only 20,000 miles on it was buckled from the rear to the back seat while at a red light. The replacement a 350/350 70 never met the psychological challenge of the loss, it's replacement a 73 was worse yet and I swore off Vettes until last week when I put my order in for a new Z06. Just loved the C-2 cars!
