THE PLAN: The C8 flagship, the Zora ZR1 - MERGE
There’s speculation Chevy could have another trick up its sleeve for the C7, which wouldn't surprise me one bit after last week’s surprising announcement of the official horsepower numbers on the new Z06.
For die-hard Corvette fans, the name "Zora" is about as sacred as that which naught can be said.
It’s clear now that GM is intent on doing everything it can to make sure the Corvette can finally take on brands like Ferrari.
The latest move centers on GM's trademarking the name “Zora” to be used in the category of “motor land vehicles, namely automobiles,” according to a GM Authority report. For die-hard Corvette fans, the name "Zora" is about as sacred as that which naught can be said.
Zora Arkus-Duntov is credited as one of the team members who helped develop the V8 engine for the first-gen model. Duntov basically transformed the Corvette from a minty-breathed, six-cylinder roadster, to the more fiery-breathed legend we know today. The Belgian-born American engineer also worked on the Grand Sport program for Corvette Racing, which has led some to speculate that GM might be planning to launch a model bearing his name.
A Corvette called Zora is catchy, isn't it?

Yup when things slow down in CorvetteVille Like the ZR1 did for C6, How about the 800 HP Zora version Z06? That should perk things up in a few years!

Considering that Zora is renowned for significantly improving the performance of the C1 generation and considering that GM was adamant that they didn't decide to give the C7 the Stingray name until it "proved itself", I think it would be great fun to see what GM comes up with for a special Zora edition of the C7. It would have to be a very special Corvette.

Le Mans Master
Zora Duntov Edition= C7 GrandSport. A widebody Z51 W/ a few more horses to bridge the HP gap between the Base and Z06. Of, course a few badges, trick wheels, etc. Probably available in MY '17.

Just saw this on the cover of a magazine (Car and Driver? Motor Trend?) at a newsstand, as I was running for the bus tonight.
I'll pick it up tomorrow, but has anyone heard anything new about this?

It's the October 2014 issue of Car and Driver.
The article basically says that the C8 is in development, it will be revolutionary, and that it will be mid-engined.
A typical car magazine article, speculating on the future.
It features a Ferrari-like rendering done by a contest winner.
They're calling it the Zora ZR-1, and saying it will be a 2017 car. Small block V8 to start, with a V6 being inevitable. Aluminum frame, 7 speed dual clutch transaxle.
C&D still having trouble with the difference between ZO6 and Z06.

I have only a few words and one metaphor for this thread: " The plane the plane!...Welcome to Fantasy Island". The mid-engine Corvette was Zora's white whale, and for some Corvette enthusiasts they will continue to chase that dream of a mid-engine Vette but will never....
