...what happens in my Callaway, when I drive in the rain?
We've been asked from time to time, what happens in a Callaway SC627 Corvette if one drives in the rain? Will my engine get wet?

To illustrate the way water is diverted from entering the engine compartment, or diverted away on the Carbon Fiber engine covers, your engine will pretty much stay dry and spotless - check out the pics!

Sharp looking car. That will surely answer those who had been on the fence about water in the engine Bay Area.

Not to be a nay-sayer, but the first pic after the wash .. the one in which the alternator is clearly visible .. shows lots of water in the engine bay. In the rest of the pics it looks as though it's been dried off. I'm not claiming it would be a problem, but with a hole in the hood, it's not going to stay dry in there..

To clarify, the car hadn't been dried off.

I just drive back from Tampa, FL this week, in the pouring rain for much of the trip. From FL to CT, little water entered the engine bay - and what little did, ran down the carbon fiber splash shields, or otherwise dissipated.

Sure, some moisture will enter, but by design, it goes away

Does a customer have to go with the hood with the hole in it? I'm not feeling it.

The hood is a part of the package, and for excellent reasons.

By going through the hood, we're able to use a larger supercharger and had unrestricted design of the upper housing for the runners, and ability to develop and implement the triple-element intercoolers.

The longer runners build torque over our 2013 model w/ the same displacement of engine and supercharger - another key feature of our design.

And additionally, convective airflow across the exposed supercharger top, further cools the unit, and air inside. Heat soak from the supercharger is nonexistent. It's also pretty cool to watch the supercharger gently rock, as it's like a shaker-style design.

Here are some detail sheets to further illustrate:

I can kind of help you out with the answer Woodson since I have been asking Chris plenty of questions about the Callaway. The hood is the only option the Callaway car comes with. Apparently for 2 reasons.
1- The height of the Callaway won't fit under a stock hood.
2- It's designed that way since it needs to breath more.
I am sure Callaway Chris will respond to explain it in a better way, lol.

Yes, but it just evaporates. No worries. The near horizontal water spray of the car wash was a bit extreme, but interesting, nonetheless

Love the look of the Callaway cars - hood and all. And sure would be nice to have a car wash like that in my garage.

That car was did a remarkable job! It's a laser, no touch wash, and does a great job.

Chris
Are you performance numbers at the engine or RWHP?

Engine dyno, using SAE Protocol.

I have found the engine bay to be pretty well sealed, even from excessive dust.
