Under hood liner: What NON-Fabric options do we have?
I like the fabric liners, but they are difficult to clean in my opinion. I have seen people replace them with mirrors, but that's not quite what I was looking for. Is anyone doing any type of hard or soft plastic replacement? something that can still be painted with designs and possibly clear coated so it can be polished up? thx

The purpose of the liner is to protect the painted hood from engine compartment heat.
Keep that in mind if replacing the liner material

Just a reminder, car is meant to be driven. Showing a car should be way down the list of things to do. I have shown my car occasionally (twice this summer), I don't go overboard cleaning, really don't care if I win or not. I even have driven my car in the rain.

Showing your car with pride at a show and driving the snot out of it otherwise are not mutually exclusive

I live in florida and do about 15K a year on my car. I daily drive my C7 so it sees a lot of road time, and a LOT of rain. There is a water stain right above where the hood vents are on the liner and it was a real pain to try and clean and i still didnt get the water line out. Im sure it is due to driving in the rain a lot. I would like to change it up something non fabric as a result. I understand what the liners purpose is, but was just inquiring about options

An expensive option would be to get one of the carbon fiber aftermarket hoods offered by the vendors here. Weapon X comes to mind as does LG. ACS has something in the pipeline also I believe. As I said, not the cheapest option, but you would get a hard surface you could paint if desired.
As for the liner protecting the paint, maybe, maybe not. The ZR-1s have no liner on their c/f hoods and no extra vents to let out heat and their hood paint has never seemed to be a problem.
