Default Does the C7 get you out of as much trouble as it gets you in?

I took the top off and took a ride today on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. A mile from my house I get on it on a on ramp get to about 115 and stuff starts flying around the cab so I try to catch the stuff before it blows out so I am off the gas. Then while I am getting on the freeway my v1 goes off with a laser hit. I look at the speedo as I am hitting the brakes and it says 84 damn I am in a 75 then I see the suv cop on the shoulder.

I think to myself he got me and this is going to be a crap day. KEep looking in rear view and sure enough he is getting on freeway. So i put down the v1 including the bracket and start looking for a place to pull over. The luck been in the car for less than 5 minutes.

I pull half way into the high grass to make sure he will be way off the freeway when he talks to me. Have license and insurance out with hands on top of steering wheel. He says were you entering the freeway a little fast. I say yes sir I just got her out and love acceleration on the on ramps but I back them down when I get on. Which is true that's what I do most the time. He said I got you doing 84 I said I was probably going better than that on the feeder.

He goes to his car gets and I am getting eaten killed by mosquitos he probably thought I was epileptic watching bat them bastards.

He comes back and says is this a 15 I got no sir a 14 and I just got er to take a drive. He goes ok but keep er at 75 ok? Yes sir I say and look out sir you have mosquitos all around your head. Then he starts batting hurrying back to his car. I turned around and thanked him once again for the warning.

This is the second time a cop has let me go after some very agressive driving and I have to think they like the car and undersstand why I am going fast..well somewhat. 50 years and still a clean record.

Whew! That was a close one! I'm glad it was only a warning.

I would seriously consider having installed a good radar detector with a laser defuser.

i know sometimes it doesn't pay to leave the house. but seriously i could tell he liked the car and that might have played into his decision not to write.

Similar experience I had but in my C6.

As the LEO comes up to the car, I have both hands on the wheel "I have a concealed carry permit and I am carrying. I need to reach into my back pocket for my wallet".

He says to go ahead, slowly. Of course I also know that in OR, when they run your plate, it's flagged if you have a CCL as well. Anyway, I get my wallet and hand him my license. He asks for the CCL as well. No problem...

So he goes back to his car and does his thing. A few minutes later he's back, hands me back everything and says "I'll let you go with a warning this time. As you have a CCL, you're obviously a responsible person. And you're driving a Vette so I'm sure you're ok. Just keep the speed down, ok?".

Gotta love it

My CCW license has gotten me out of probably 5 tickets in the last 3 years alone. Most of the cops are like, "what kind lf gun you got? Do you like it?" Lol

I saw a patrol car spying an on ramp recently. That is the one place it should be against the law to do that on...well them and OFF ramps...

Congrats on the warning.

He only clocked you at 9mph over too. That probably helped also.

yea that probably did. Lucky for me those papers in the trunk went flying around or I probably wouldn't have let up so fast.

I really wish we had some autobahn type roads in the USA.

Rather than the car, I would suspect your handling of the traffic stop produced the positive result. For example, you pulled well off the road, so you both would be safer. You got your licence and registration out, without having been asked. You kept your hands in plain sight, so the officer felt safer talking to you. And you were polite to him, and didn't give him attitude.

I've always found if you treat police officers with politeness, courtesy and respect, they generally respond in kind.

However, the C7 also could have helped, too.

I'd say the combo of only being 9 over and your excellent handling of the traffic stop is what got you out of it. My father is a recently retired LEO and has always told me to do what you did if I were to find myself in a traffic stop. I have been in a few and it always has worked. But then again I don't typically drive like the crazy speed obsessed person that I am (that's for the track). In most areas less than 10 over isn't going to get you a ticket much less pulled over unless there are other circumstances involved (weaving, overly aggressive driving, etc). It does happen... But generally results in a warning just to keep you honest.

I have found being very polite goes a long way. Having your paper work, and CCW permit ready also helps. I have been stopped several times in Vette's, yet I have never had a ticket in one, a few warnings.

Have been stopped in the 14 one, I was 5 over when he stopped me, but he was looking for me. Seems they had five or six calls about a New white Corvette running 70 to 80 in a 55 zone curvy mountain road, running form Lenoir City to Kingston. He was waiting for me to come by, but 2 miles before city limit I slowed to 50 when the speed changed to 45.

He knew I was the guy that the calls were about, I mean temp tags and all, in an area where a Corvette is rare, and a county where the average income is 25K a year.

He talked to me for about 15 minutes, about not smart to drive like that, then about the car, and last about the 1911 45 I was carrying. No ticket just the verbal warning.

I was on Oakland Pk Blvd in Sunrise Fl heading east in my 84 doing 50 in a 45 mph limit. In my rear view I see a police car and the red lights start flashing, I pull over and the officer walks over and asks for lic, reg, ins card. Tells me I was speeding and I say to him " there were cars and trucks right a long side me at the same speed " . His reply was " I can only stop one at a time ! Silently I thought to myself " And it always the corvette " At that point I said " I hate this F%$#@%ing car !! The officer said " What did you say ?? I replied " I always wanted a Corvette and at 60 I finally got one ( I'm 71 now with a C7 ) and never got tickets. Now I get stopped if I go threw a yellow or if I go 5 over the limit etc .He looked at me, held out my lic, reg and handing it back to me as he said " Today's your lucky day , now get out of here " .
I did not criticize him when he stopped me , just stated what we both knew is the way it works and I guess hearing it and knowing I am correct in what I said he let me off.
The difference with my C7 is if I am on the highway and going 10 over the Leo pulls alongside and gives a thumbs up's.
