Mid-Engine Corvette Expected to Top $150,000
#21
Just came from my dealer and the salesman said it was a fact. He has seen and ridden in one of the test mules. They already have their allocation numbers and I signed up at number 3 at MSRP. Should have an order confirmation in a few days. Delivery in early 2017.
The salesman also told me that the Titanium Stealth Silver (extra cost) paint color is invisible to current police radar and laser speed guns.

I believe it is completely possible that GM is cooking up something that wild BUT at the point where your comfortable playing in the $150,000 price range are you still in the market for a Chevrolet??

Safety Car
$150,000 for a potentially 700+ hp, mid engine, rear drive sports car that's likely to destroy anything up to and including cars costing more than 4x what I paid? Yup. Count me in. And this is coming from a self-confessed lLamborghini fan boy and former 430 owner.
2018? I'll believe it when I see it, but if it happens, it's mine.

Even after that I'd still be weary of sitting in the Chevrolet service department drinking day old coffee out of styrofoam cups while my $150,000+ supercar was being worked on by the same tech that just striped the oil drain plug on the $14,000 Chevy Cruz in line in front of me.
I guess what I'm saying is if you take your Lamborghini to a Lamborghini dealership and you get the level of service that you paid for... You take your $150,000 vette to a Chevrolet dealership and you get the pimple faced kid that doesn't feel like changing your oil filter because its too hot. How do I know? Because I used to be that pimple faced kid that was a "tech" at the Chevrolet dealership

AMEN!!!!! Back when it came out I was ready to buy one for an investment. It had transmission issues and axle issues that Ford quickly addressed.
Decided to invest in property instead. Yea that was a good idea!!!! NOT!!!!
Now on Barrett Jackson the GT has already doubled in price and won't be going south.
I don't know if this car will happen. I remember Dave Hill saying yea we can build a super car but you are getting into a way limited market. But that was when a C5 was selling in the $40s. 3-4 years down the road a $150K speciality car....... may not be far fetched.
I'm saving up. If it does not happen no biggie.

$150K for a Chevrolet, I don't think so, at least not for me and in the current GM Organization. IF GM stays the same as today's business plan and organization, well there are so many other cars that would be so much nicer that cost much less I think the Corvette market will take a serious hit. I cannot see you bringing an elite sports car of that price to your local Chevy dealer for service, next to the Malibu, Cruze, and Silverado or Tahoe. Does not make sense. They are pushing it with the Corvette.
However, rumors grow stronger each day of GM making major organizational changes, if so this will be the first major step. Let me explain, in today's current GM plan, sure they will sell their limited amount of cars produced of they go that direction, but staying under the Chevrolet nameplate, I seriously think by breaking the golden rule of producing an American Sports Car the average American can afford (even though the are pushing it with the C7 and C6 with the increases of price in the past). So under the current GM, producing such an elite and high price car will be the beginning of the end of a car within reach of most.
I think what is going to happen, is Corvette will become its own GM nameplate and break away from Chevrolet. Chevrolet will become the SUV and electric cars part of GM; the lower end affordable Toyota of GM, while GMC will be trucks (light and heavy), Buick will be upper scale sedans and coupes (electric and hybrid) with a GS/GNX line for lower prices sport sedans, and the Caddy high end luxury and sport and sedans/coupes with gasoline and hybrid engine direct competition for European and Asian high end cars.
If this is the case, you will have the Corvette nameplate expanding it line, and this will justify the very high end mid-engine Zora (ZR1), the Stingray, the Z06, and possibly the GS (wider body) model Corvettes. It will be at this time you see the more economical Stingray with six cylinders to the GS Stingrays, Z06 and ZR1 models ranging in price form the low 50' through the high 150 range. I honestly thing you will see a 4 wheel drive Corvette too....
Doing this will change the entire Corvette methodology we know today of part of Chevrolet.
GM is changing and will change its business model over the next few years. Don't be surprised to see the Opel making its way back to the US, sold under Buick.

Burning Brakes
Went to Somernites cruise this past weekend, and observing usual parade of people looking at my car, when I noticed most of the guys were more interested in a ranger pick-up beside me parked head in to the parking spot. It was a mid engine using olds toronado engine and trans. on his own chassis. A lot of work but not 150k. The way it was set up he could put any body on it he wanted!

No, but it wasn't a mid-engine Mustang either. It was a one-off, short-lived attempt by Ford to capture a very different market segment. If you bought one it was a great investment. It wasn't very successful for Ford.
If I ever spend $150k or more on a vehicle it won't be a Chevy.
