The best road in Virginia
Sunset with my baby and me on the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
Nothing better than a day on the Skyline Drive -- thanks FDR!
Beautiful end to a beautiful October day in Shenandoah National Park.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, but the Skyline Drive is NOT the best road in Virginia. It's an under-posted piece of... well.. I won't say.
Rt. 211 that bisects the Skyline Drive, however, IS the best road in Virginia. Not that I've ever driven it (at triple-digit speeds) ...

But yes , 211 going up to the top is a lot of fun and no cops to worry about.

Just ...
be careful at the base of it. That Jalopnik author got his ticket in the same general region as the bottom of that stretch of 211 across Skyline Drive.
(But damn, it's a fun road. More fun before they put rumble strips in the braking zones though.
Although maybe I shouldn't be comfortable admitting that I think of that stretch of public highway as having braking zones.)

The area between New Market Gap and Thornton Gap (aka: Luray) is not the place to "hustle" a car. It's easy for the local constabulary to catch folks who are trying to have fun (in a boring, straight line). But get to one of the two aforementioned Gaps and... Um....
Wheee?
Not that I'D do something that irresponsible. Any more. Now that I'm older and more mature....

Safety Car
Cant believe you didnt get a ticket just for having a fast car on Skyline Drive.
Its a beautiful place.. but LE in that area is particularly sensitive. You will get a ticket for something like missing a front license plate.
