Default Sill Plate Protection Covers Reviewed

UPDATE: I removed these after three weeks of use for a couple of reasons. First, the velcro pulls the carpet fibers up when you remove the covers. Second, the edges of the sill plate covers scuff the black plastic door sill where the covers meet the plastic on the rear edge. Third, if anything gets under the covers, it is going to scuff or scratch the sill plates. These covers are well made, but are not for me.

I just received a set of sill plate covers that I purchased from ZIP and they are a very nice addition for the purpose of protecting the areas where most people drag their feet across the door sill. Here is a description from the ZIP website:

High impact clear acrylic guards protect the entire 2014-2015 Corvette sill area from scuffs and wear commonly caused when entering and exiting your C7 Corvette. Fits both coupe and convertible Corvettes. Pressure fit installation can be easily completed in 30 seconds without the use of screws or modifications. Unique locking stripes secure the sill in place.

Clear sill protectors allow your C7 Corvette's factory paint color to show through plus they are designed with an impression to enhance the looks of your Stingray's original sill plates. By far the most practical sill protectors for your Corvette.
The "unique locking stripes" that secure the sill in place are basically designed to lock into the car's carpet. The only thing you will want to be careful of is making sure that you pull them away from the carpet when removing the sill plate covers so that you do not pull the carpet fibers up. It's not a big deal if you do, but you will notice some of the fibers being lifted up higher than the rest of the carpet.

It's a fantastic idea, but it's also kind of funny when you really think about it, because the original sill plate, in addition to looking very cool, is also there to protect the paint from getting scuffed up on entry, and now here we have a protector for the protector!

Btw. I have had them in all of my Vettes! But it makes little sense if I think about it too much.

I have them and love them. They protect without detracting from the looks of the factory sill.

I am not a fan. It looks cheap to me. I am all for a nicely kept car, but I think we are staring to get carried away.

I don't drag my feet either, but every time someone else gets in or out of my car, I have to clean the scuffs off (unless they are in my family and they know they better lift their feet over without scuffing). That's why I got these.

Have to agree. Don't like the looks at all, and they'll have to be removed and cleaned on both sides and the sills cleaned every time the car is washed, which doesn't interest me in the least. If I wanted to keep my C7 looking like it just came off the showroom floor I'd park it in the garage and look at it. Since I use it as a car I'm fine with some eventual signs of wear and use.

To each their own.

Same reason here. I am very particular and take time to enter and exit. Not everyone else does the same. Hence the protection. I would rather they scuff an $80 piece of plastic that is easily replaceable than the paint on my door sill.

For me, they're good for protection and are quickly removed when I want to show the car off.

I have a set also and I noticed the pulling of the carpet fibers. I removed the plastic strips and find that they are not a must to have. My wife and being a little older and not as limber as we used to be have a little harder time not scuffing the sill plates.

Had them on my '09 Z and worked great. They are a little plasticky as someone said and I have thought about putting Xpel on the sills. I am forced to valet at my club and every so often the valets do drag their feet so they have served a purpose in the past.

Of course I could put these on and then Xpel over them so I could protect the protectors and then....(ONLY KIDDING)

I had xpel put on mine and you can't tell it's there. Wipes clean easily.

The factory door sill is replaceable. why not just replace that if/when it shows distress?

There are several options for those who want some form of protection. My post was to show one such option and to provide a review.

Thanks for posting the useful review. I've been thinking about these.
