Corvette Mules? What happens to them?
I saw this pic of a C7 Mule from a Corvette Mag article about the development of the C7:
the article said they built over 70 C7 mules for various testing.
My question: what happens to all the corvette mules once the car is manufactured/released?
I pose this b/c i just thought the camouflage on the C7 was cool, but i know from reading, most of the newer generations all had a lot of mules built for testing, etc.....just curious if anyone knew what happened to them? Does GM just destroy them?

Unless they are going to use some of the drivetrain parts for other testing....the entire cars are destroyed as they do not have VIN's, are not listed as 'production cars' so they may not meet crash or emissions standards and can not be sold.

wow, thanks for the info. that's amazing! but i guess you're right, they are not "production" cars....i think the camouflaged C7 above is so cool...sad to think that ended up smashed into little pieces....

Melting Slicks
And sometimes not.
When I did the R8C with my C5, they had one on display in he museum
That particular one was a trans-am/firebird body they used to test C5 components.

In the past and likely even now, those CTFs that can meet crash and emission standards will be brought up to standard and be marketed as used. Dealers have a chance to bid for them. My memory is there will be an x in the VIN. In the past it seems like Kerbeck Chevrolet got most of them. Do not know if this happened with the C7 but am not aware of any reason why it would not. This would have happened a few months after start of regular production, say around December 2013.
The CTF vehicles we see around here have VINs.

in the book "all corvettes are red" they talked about the test cars that had C5 guts but were put in trans-am/firebirds....they called them something funny, a combo of the 2 names, but i can't remember what it was....for the C5 testing they also built a # of mules that had C5 stuff put in C4 bodies....they had to modify some of them-can't remember if it was longer or wider or both....it was interesting stuff to read...sad to think they are all destroyed....which i'm sure they were....
Only knew of a few of those.....actually got to drive one of them when I was in school. Dad worked for Borg Warner and they had one to do trans testing with.

I have seen the 2015 Red Pacific Coupe at a car show in Kingston, RI and then later at Carlise. We checked out the vin and it ended with 0000001EX. We were told that it would be destroyed as it can never be sold or registered.
