My First House & My C7 Cost The Same

My first house was $14,799.00 61 or 62. I had a 61 409 at the time, sticker was $3700. My C7 with eveything I ordered is close to $80,000.
My current house was considerably more.
When I was really young my mom and dad rented a house in Castro Valley from her sisters borther in law. He built it hiself. Two bedroom one bath. Lots of land. You couldn't see another house ,as far as you could see looking out the back. Asking price was $3,000.00 Dad didn't think they could afford it. Now there's nothing but houses as far as you can see.
Oh bth. Dad had a 39 chevy club coupe $ 500.00

the flip side
Went to look at Wash Post advertised Shelby Cobra 427 in Georgetown back in 69 but had a 67 GT-500 on my hands at the time. Around 5K was the price.
Worth millions today while my first/new house in 1972 cost me 25K & worth maybe 200 something?
for taking care of business

Funny to think how much the dollar has changed. The wheels on my car cost more then my dads first car.
My motorcycle costs as much as my grandmothers current home (bought when she was A LOT younger)
its all relative...
My current condo cost more then my parents house they currently live in. Same neighborhood, just 20 years later

My first house cost $ 16,000. My new Malibu (1964) cost $3,000, My C7 cost
My first house cost $16,000. My first New Malibu (64) cost #3,000. My C7 cost $ 78,000 and I'm OK with that. It's what I worked for all my life. No regrets whatsoever.

63 swc
I just re-wrote history and I built my brand new 63 Split Window Coupe.
Being a Monday Morning QB, I insisted on every conceivable option for my Fuel Injected Sting Ray. Power everything over-ride, even AC over-ride, 4 Speed of course, 30 gall tank, Knock-off wheels which you couldn't even get at the time, and that great Z06 option that cost a whopping 1818 back then.
Base coupe was 4252 (3spd no options)
Grand Total with my picks...$8289
Well I couldn't get that price in my dream so here with the CPI Inflation Calculator my 2014 price is...
$64,478 fully loaded (33075 base coupe)
Wouldn't it be nice if you could order a brand new fully loaded FI Sting Ray SWC for 64,478? Well only in our dream. But you can order a 2015 FI Stingray for like 64,478. You have another bite at the apple. Go for it.

I probably won't see the day my first house (bought in 1991 for $480,000) costs less than a new Corvette unless we have another third world era of inflation like we saw from 1978-1986.

In 1973 I bought a waterfront home in Merrick, Long Island, NY. It cost me $76,000 with a floating dock and all.
Today that house is worth well over a million dollars. I doubt that my C7 in 40 years will be worth a million dollars.
But on the other hand a new C12 might just cost you a million dollars by then. I wonder what the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times will be then.
At almost 70 I have high hopes that maybe I will see that day.

Had you bought that house when it was new 7-10 years earlier, it would have cost you $37,000; that is what my parent's paid for theirs.

But I agree with others if I kept some of my rare Vetts I could have done quite well.

First Corvette at 16 years old was back in 1970, a Corvette 64 Hardtop / Convert 365 HP paid $1075.00 and sold it about 6 mo. later for $1150. paid in 1971 -72 21.9 cents per gallon for premium.

Heel & Toe
My C7 cost twice as much as my first house not as much as my first ex-wife......but 4 times the pleasure of my first ex-wife. Moral of the story .....dont get married get a vette instead.....more fun and cheaper in the long run

The first house I bought cost me $41K. Ever since the C5 the Vette has cost more than that house did.

In high school I fell in love with the '61 Vette. Later, during my last year in the USAF, exactly 50 years ago, I was in Vietnam. There was a program where a GI overseas could order a new US car, probably at invoice, and have it delivered upon his return stateside. I priced out a new Vette, and it was 3700 and some odd dollars. I didn't do the order, and instead bought a new VW Beetle for $1800 when I got home. Traded that VW on my first Corvette, a new 1969 T-top that cost $5200. There was a lot of excitement in the dealer's showroom when the word got around that I was trading a Beetle in on a new Vette!
