Default 8 Speed Auto VS. 7 Speed Manual

I think it's important we start to share some insight on our preferences of either the 2015 C7 8 Speed Automatic transmission or the 7 Speed Manual transmission.

What are everyone's thoughts?

I think it's to each their own. I was never a big fan of autos in sports cars but that's just closed minded of me. There is no denying the practicality and performance of modern sport autos, it has been proven that in almost all applications they are a slight bit quicker than their manual counterparts but as far as being connected with the car (I know it's a subjective feeling) a manual is the way to go not to mention as far as C7s go, automatically engaging the AFM that autos do (no turning it off unless you want a CEL) is a nono for me. I don't like AFM, I think it's hard on the engine and the fuel gains vs wear and tare on the engine, it's not worth it, I'll take the extra 10 buck loss for every 1000 kms that I travel without it on.

Mind ya, there's a member who posted a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds which, if true, I don't think even an 8 spd can match no matter who drove it.

For me the decision was easy. I spent a lot of years driving a semi that had a 13 spd Road ranger. One old Mack my father owned had a twin stick 15 spd triplex trans. Two out of my last 3 corvettes were 4 spd's. My last one a 1988 was an auto. The one I just ordered has an 8 spd auto. I'm 50 now and I don't want to shift anymore. If I were in my 20's or 30's a 7 spd sounds like a lot of fun. Either choice with the C7, your getting one hell of a car.

Good thought on the engine ware. I guess that and the responsiveness are of the biggest concerns. Any idea why GM didn't opt for dual clutch in the C7? Cost?

Why would you possibly care if a new thread for the same subject is brought up. Maybe some thoughts from others have come up. I don't know why when a person starts a new thread for a subject that was previously discussed should cause the rudeness that some ops insist on inserting. My mother always said if you can't say something nice then don't say it at all.

Just more opinions from different members.....nothing wrong with that. Some people are getting very hesitant about changing over from manual to auto or vice versa. Like me.....I just got lazy and went with the A6 and I have no regrets. The A6 is quick and easier to launch for me I suppose. And I am having fun with it. I have been called a sissy just because I have an auto. Does not bother me at all.....just meet me at the track and see what happens. Oh, not to mention the OP probably wants his own thread just like everyone else.

I really don't care how great the auto is or isn't. I only wanted a manual.

If I were dragracing, I'd want an auto.

Well, my mother always said use the search function before posting a new thread. She also said, don't ride a dead horse into the ground.

Since this subject has been well discussed as mentioned above, I would rather see an honest comparison of the A8 to the A6 by someone who has driven or owned both for more than a couple of miles around town.

If this has been covered in a thread, please post it up.

Fortunately or unfortunately I am like a lot of other people who like what they like regardless of the merits of either trans. I will always drive a manual as long as I am physically able regardless of the merits of the 8 speed. There are others who don't want to continually shift in traffic or physically can't shift or just don't want to and it doesn't matter what the merits of a stick are. If you are undecided, drive both.
