Default Charge for Nav update

Is it wrong that I don't feel it should cost $160 for this? Just got this letter in the mail today:

That's quite a bit less expensive than some other manufacturers

Well, the update for my '13 C6 and my '07 Avalanche are $199 each, if it makes you feel any better.

I did not know that. I guess it seems fair then.

Can you jump years though. As if I'm happy with mine till the 2016 update, or do you have to do it in order??

I update my Acura MDX about every 3-4 years.

Don't find it necessary to do it every year.

Should be no problem. In 8 years with the Avalanche, we have only done 2 updates, and I'm getting ready to order the latest. The '13 Vette is still on the original disc (C6 is DVD based,) even though it was delivered in June 2012.

What bothers me the most about this is it is a 2015 car. They should at least give those owners a freebie. Heck you've probably had the car for less than 60 days. What are they going to do with the ones on the dealers lots right now. I can hear the salesman in the middle of December. That will be $72,385.14 for the car and $160 for the map updates.

$40 cheaper than the C6's update but twice as much as what you can buy a new Garmin 50LM(lifetime free map updates four times annually) NAV for at Walmart during Black Friday.

I guess I should have posted, mine is a 2014. I'll be waiting for at least the 2016 update. Cars in storage for winter now anyways.

My 2003 350z I update every three years...it's a dd and I drive the same places all the time so don't need updated maps.I plan on waiting to update my 2014 C7 in 2016 or 2017.. To each their own....

When you select a 2015 Corvette on the Nav update website, it states "the map you are currently using is the latest version available today."

When selecting a 2014 Corvette, it shows part number 23496379 as the latest update.

I don't know why they say "the update will be created specifically for your vehicle". Everybody gets the same update. Just another cash grab by GM.

So you have done an update on the new infotainment system using a USB drive and know this for a fact?

Of course not. But the logistics of creating "special" versions for people is beyond GM's ability. Don't lose site of the fact that there is no reason to create a special version. A map is a map.

Well, I think it's outrageous. Just bought a new Garmin with lifetime map updates (4 per year) for $140. For the price of that system they should give you a multiple lifetime updates.

The USB drive will be tied to your VIN so it can't be used on multiple cars. Mitsubishi does something similar so each purchased update drive can only be used on a specific car (unlike a DVD based nav system like the C6).
