Default Nav & OnStar?

My GPS is out (an X through the GPS in upper right corner of the screen). The service tech says I have to subscribe to OnStar for the GPS to work because the Nav uses the OnStar antenna. I cancelled my OnStar several months ago.

Can someone confirm or refute this connection?

That's not true. I was using my NAV before I ever signed up for the free OnStar.

There's a thread here somewhere that addresses the "X".

Your service tech is clueless. If you have a 2015 with the PDR, see this thread: GPS Red X "Fix".

The GPS works without OnStar. Mine works and I declined the OnStar privacy statement within a week of delivery on my 2014.

It took me an hour to convince the service department manager, the head service mechanic and the service coordinator plus they made 3 phone calls to varying GM people to verify the basic NAV system does not rely on OnStar to operate correctly. Duh!

They still haven't found the issue and the car goes back in after the holiday to start all over again.

Honestly, I'd find another dealer with better service techs.
