Default Is Mobil 1 THE recommended Oil and fill oil?

Since I am about to have my first oil change (about 1500 miles) since GM is now saying to change out the break-in oil at 500 miles, I started looking at my manual since Glen e posed the question of Mobil 1 oil to Customer Service. I have a 2014 Z51 w/dry sump.
Page 10-14 of the Owner Manual says it all: "Corvette recommends Mobil 1 engine oils that meet the requirements of the dexos 1 specification for its dry sump equipped engines. See www.gmdexos.com." And just below it is a CAUTION that reads "Failure to use the recommended engine oil can result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty. Check with your dealer or service provider on whether the oil is approved to the dexos 1 specification."

I interpret this to mean that only Mobil 1 meeting the dexos 1 spec is to be used in Corvette dry sump engines and that a dealer (Chevrolet) is obligated to utilize that oil for an oil change. I guess that I will find out next week

There is no break-in oil. You can change it at 1500. Or wait until oil life monitor gets to around 5-10% oil life left.
I would opt for the earlier mileage for the first time. Then follow the oil life monitor threats of the way. Or one year whichever comes first.

It in the Owners Manual:

Specification
Use and ask for licensed engine oils
with the dexos1® approved
certification mark. Engine oils
meeting the requirements for the
vehicle should have the dexos1
approved certification mark. This
certification mark indicates that the
oil has been approved to the dexos1
specification. Corvette recommends
Mobil 1® engine oils that meet the
requirements of the dexos1
specification for its dry sump
equipped engines.

Viscosity Grade
SAE 5W-30 is the best viscosity
grade for the vehicle. Do not use
other viscosity grade oils such as
SAE 10W-30, 10W-40, or 20W-50.
For track events or competitive
driving, use Mobil 1® 15W-50
engine oil. An instrument cluster
warning light will be illuminated at
high oil temperatures. See Driver
Information Center (DIC) on
page 5-23.
Cold Temperature Operation: In an
area of extreme cold, where the
temperature falls below −29°C
(−20°F), an SAE 0W-30 oil may be
used. An oil of this viscosity grade
will provide easier cold starting for
the engine at extremely low
temperatures. When selecting an oil
of the appropriate viscosity grade,
always select an oil of the correct
specification.

Sorry to highjack this thread but.

Using the search function will not give you the original bulletin I guess. Yes it will give you bunch of threads where the technical issues or bulletin topic has discussed. But in order to search the bulletin topic related threads, first we need to know whether there is a new bulletin exist or not.

So basically is there a common place (web site) where GM updates these new bulletins? So that corvette owners can periodically check the web site to see there is anything updated? And then they can use the search function to search that topic in more details here. That's what my original question was.

It is too bad that owner’s don’t get a notification or emails when a bulletin is available. OR when something changed. The issue is if the owner is not checking the Forum periodically then he will not aware of this because dealer or car manufacture also will never informed the owner about this. So in this example, without knowing the new change, owners might be running their corvette without oil change even after 500 miles.

I had mine changed yesterday with 5w-30 Mobil 1.
Make sure they put in only 9.8 qts.
So you don't overfill the dry sump.

I took mine to the dealer this afternoon at 522 miles. The Service Writer still had not seen anything about the new bulletin. I did change out the stock drain plugs to magnetic plugs. The service technician let me watch the change in the bay. I was expecting something more difficult with the dry sump but everything was pretty straightforward. Unfortunately it was not until I was talking with the tech that I found out that I could have brought my own Mobil 1 oil instead of using their GM Dexos oil. Next time.

Thanks Glen, I will send the bulletin number to the service writer.
