Default Owners Manual (Does any one read it)

I cannot believe all the threads from Corvette owners with questions, that are simply answered in their owners manual.

When ever I buy a new car I quickly review any items that I should be aware of. In the case of my 2015 C7, I have read the owners manual cover to cover and reviewed the videos on the chevy site.

It just amazes me that people make an investment in such a complicated car and never take the time to read the Owners manual.

Maybe I just have too much time on my hands and love to understand new technology.

I also read the manual, skipping some mundane parts. RTFM is what we used to say about that.

I have read the online 2015 PDF cover to cover as I die waiting for the January arrival.. And rented a Chevy with mylink for a business trip to mess around with the Nav and all the stuff on it.

When Rachel arrives there will be no messing around..(after proper breakin ; )

if more did, we'd have much more great content here instead of a 1st page of diluted repetitive crap...but every forum is the same, so grin and bear it.

tip: put the PDF owners manual, sales guide and infotainment manual on your tablet or computer...now you have keyword search that brings up your newbie answer in 5 secs...also, if you read it before your delivery, you'd have much more time to inspect and evaluate the build quality, instead of struggling thru bluetooth pairing and how the DIC works...waste of time....

Cover to cover at least twice AND the infotainment book twice also!

I have a copy on my iPad and reference it often. The car is so much more enjoyable when you understand all the features. I am still learning and discover more everyday.

To many, it's like a computer or camera. Know just enough to get it running and then learn on the fly.

But the manual has too many big words & long words & not enough pictures...

I rather do something easier, like doing my taxes, or shop for my "free" health insurance...

It would be nice if the forum was more sharing of information gained by experience and time with the vehicles rather than continual requests for info readily available in the manual.

Would also be nice if the forum had a section entitled "Whine and Cheese" for use by those whose pastime is chronic whining and complaining about their cars.

I like reading the manual. But questions on the Forum just add to the post count.

Like you, I read the owners manual cover-to-cover, glossing over the boring, common sense references that are only there to "CYA" the manufacturer in a legal battle, if you ask me.

I also went through the videos, especially the ones with that hot blond doing all the talking (had to watch those over again several times; my wife, not listening to what was being said, thought I was watching porno, well, maybe it was a different form of porno for us car people... Sorry, I'm digressing....)

Anyway, even after all the reading and watching, unless you are one of those savant types, how much do you really remember??? Surely not all of it. I've had to refer to the manual numerous times. You may have read it, but until you experience a need for something, it will probably be forgotten or even addressed in there. It was after I posted a question/comment on the forum that someone "reminded me" of this one in the manual:

The EPB can also be used to prevent roll back for vehicles with a manual transmission taking off on a hill. When no roll back is desired, an applied EPB will allow both feet to be used for the clutch and accelerator pedals in preparation for starting the vehicle moving in the intended direction. In this case, there is no need to push the switch to release the EPB.

I use this all the time when some knucklehead pulls up behind with no room to spare!!

Hmmm.... I think it's time to watch another video to refresh my memory on something....

If they would only get rid of all the warnings and cautions the manual would be about 15 pages long and everyone would memorize it... :
Actually I skim the whole manual the first couple days (especially after a model change)and then if I have specific question about an item I look it up too see if I can find it. Usually I can but the index is not its strong point... At least the PDF version can be searched.

Take the PDF version and customize it to your needs.

Well, there is a LOT of information in this thread.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-stingray.html

And the section that thread is in, also has a whole lot more information,
by many people.

I have a Yamaha Jet Boat with 17 safety warning labels and we complain about the 2 warning labels on the sun visors

At 360 some pages, it's more like a novel than a manual...

Although I was amused by the number of pages dedicated to instruction on how to operate a manual trans.
