Default A6/Park

There are occasions where I’d like to move the car very short distances (a foot or two) in the garage and don’t see a need to start it to do so.

In every other automatic equipped car I’ve owned and most any I can recall as rentals, you could put it neutral and move it w/o starting it.

I have yet to find a way to do so in the C7. Lighting the engine start button and putting my foot on the brake does no good. Any ideas? Thanks

Owner's Manual 9-24:

Shifting out of Park

Shift lock release prevents shifting out of P (Park) unless the vehicle is running or in accessory mode and the brake pedal is applied.

Owner's Manual 9-20:

ACC/ACCESSORY (Amber Indicator Light):

This mode allows the use of some electrical accessories when the engine is off. With the ignition off, pressing the button one time without the brake pedal applied will place the ignition system in ACC/ACCESSORY.

The ignition will switch from ACC/ACCESSORY to OFF after five minutes to prevent battery
rundown.

Yes, I’ve seen that. I’ve been in accessory mode and no luck there. I’ll try again. Thanks, Don

I can't remember but I think I moved mine by pushing and holding the start button for about five seconds to put it into service mode. The shifter was able to be moved. Car is in storage so I can't verify but it's worth a try.

I've wondered about this same thing. There's times when I want to move the car without starting it, because the heat is on, and I'd rather not open the door to run the car. How would the car be towed, or pulled up on the flatbed, if it's not running? Am I missing something?

Edit:

I just went out to the garage with the key fob in my pocket. I pushed the start button for 5 seconds, without my foot on the brake, and it went into service mode. I then put my foot on the brake, and was able to shift it into neutral, to move the car. So I learned something new today. Thanks Rick & dbdave

Stoopid question.....
To return to "normal" (i.e. out of 'service mode'), do you repeat the same 5-second procedure ?

No need to push the start button for 5 seconds, to get out of "service mode". Just hit the start button with your foot off the brake pedal, and get out as usual.

Well, tried using the Service mode again, I guess I might have let it time out the first time. For whatever reason, the car would allow me to shift it out of Park and into neutral.

Not a major issue but nice to know I can do it when I want to. Don

It can take as long as ten seconds to actually get into "service mode". Maybe it didn't engage it?
