Default Headlight bulb replacement

My neighbor asked me to help him change his headlight bulbs. I took a brief look and didn't see any access to the rear of the headlight assembly.

Does anybody know how to release the headlight bulb? Is there an access panel?

Thanks

I think they're accessed from the fenderwell, in front of the front tires.

I finally found something but it involves removing the front bumper? Can anyone confirm this?

Must be an easier way.

From all the info I have been able to get, yes, you need to remove the front end to change the bulb... If in fact thats correct, its beyond absurd!

2014 has to have the front bumper removed and then the pod taken out. A major PITA!!!!

I'm dragging my feet on installing my 6K bulbs because of that work for 2 dumb bulbs.

Unfortunately not an unusual circumstance in today's crowded engine bays. The engineering is convenient when the car is being built..... for replacement purposes, not so much.

Confirmed with the dealer. Procedure posted in the tech section is correct. Front bumper needs to come off.

Luckily I'm not the kind of guy to say, "I told you so".

C6s have this access. C7s require the entire nose to come off to get at the pods. The pods come out and THEN you can change the bulbs! Whoopie!

It's crazy, but a lot more cars are going to be like this in the future. I just had a headlight bulb burn out on my daily driver (2006 Civic) and when I found out the bumper needs to come off, I had them swap out the bulbs with an LED kit, so I'll never have to do this again. I'm surprised that a C7 would have a headlight bulb go out so soon, I figured they'd last 10-15 years or more. On the Civic you can access the bulbs through the fenderwell, but most people don't want to do it this way in case the clips holding the fender liners break, then you end up with more problems.

The C8 models will have no bulb replacement in their headlights. You will have to pay $1200.00 to replace the headlight, and $1200.00 labor to have the front end removed to do it. All bulbs are guaranteed to last until the warranty is over.

Dang. I hadn't even looked. I didn't think they would have taken a step backward like that.

Just did this replacement last week with 6000Ks. Like others have said, no way but to remove the bumper. Its a pain, but you don't need to jack the front of the car up. I did it in 1.5hours, also gave me a chance to install grille. If I had to do it again, probably 45mins. There is no way to access the bulbs from the back, there is additional shielding behind each headlight that separates it from the wheel well.

I'd be surprised too. But the OP didn't say the bulbs went out.

Anyway, if BOTH right & left bulbs died simultaneously, I'd suspect something electrical. Relay? Fuse?

Hopefully not a re-run of this C6 issue: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1582973586

True, that's a good point. Although, what would someone be changing the bulbs over to? They are already a good setup, I can't imagine how they could be improved upon.

He wanted to change to 6000Ks but isnt very hands on.

I just wanted to confirm there wasnt an easier way but since then the dealer quoted him 3 hours labor so he will pass until he decides to change the grill.

He did joke with the dealer and asked if you had to turn the car upside down to drain the oil???
