Default Fuel gauge stopped working

Today while driving my fuel gauge stopped working ( both the needle and the DTE digital gauge )
I guess it's probably the sensor in the tank...called the dealer and I will drop it off Monday. Little disappointed that I have a problem after 4 months of ownership and not excited if they have to drop the tank
..… hopefully one problem in the many future years of happy and trouble free enjoyment

Little things like that happen from time to time. Luckily it happened with a full warranty.

What kind of gas you using top tier get some Chevron techron gas additive it helps clean the sending unit.

Sunoco but I should not have to "clean" a sending unit on a 4 month old car....I use the same gas in all of my cars without issues

At 8300 miles, sulfation of the sending unit(s) (there are 2 y'know) shouldn't be an issue

LOL I thought I had a deja'vue and was back in the C6 forums. If that's true that the sending units went bad, and had to be replaced with no warranty your looking at a $2k job. I hope the tank units are not the same. If you want to go out and buy 87 octane gas at places like Valero thinking your going to save a buck..think again...the fix will end up costing you more.

My c6 didn't have the issue, but I think every one of my past c5s had it at some point, as does the one I have now. I just always fill up and reset the mileage on it just in case that happens. Of course on a brand new car, that would be totally unacceptable! I think I'd just sit and laugh, then cry, if it happened on my c7!

Yea, the problem happens when people don't let the tank get to below 1/4 tank before filling up again. Since there are two tanks (one on passenger side and one on driver side) one empties before the other is used. The driver side tank empties first (gauge at half tank reading) then the passenger side. Therefore, the passenger side tank sensor tends to get more sulfation and starts to send inaccurate signals to the driverside tank sensor which leads to failure to communicate and a broken fuel gauge bouncing back and forth, or reading empty. At least this is what the issue was with people on the C6 forums.

It happened on cars with less mileage yes there are two units. You might be shocked at my background just saying.

swaite,

My apologies regarding your fuel gauge concerns. Although I understand your displeasure, it's great that you'll be proactively reaching out to your dealer for an official diagnosis. Keep us in the loop and updated on your service visit. If necessary, I can contact the dealer's Customer Experience Managers if you have additional questions. We'll look forward to your updates .

Hopefully it stopped working with a full reading, then you will be able to drive forever without the value changing. Always nice to see a full fuel reading. Oh, don't be surprised if the engine does not continue running!!!!!

good to know.

I rarely fill my tank(s) up, I wait until it's a c hair before the light comes on then I put in about 40-60 bucks of 94 from a reputable petrol station.

Try a container of techron in the tank and drive it for several days before letting the dealer drop the tanks (big job). This cured the sulfation problem for many (including me) in the C5 era. While the techron is doing its thing, just fill up every 200 miles to avoid running dry.

Was really hoping the fuel gauge issue was a thing of the past. This is the first post I've seen of it happening on a C7 (could have missed earlier ones though). Try the Techron first and hopefully that will get the gauge working properly again.

Thank you, do you know if I am entitled to a loaner car if it ends up being more than a day to fix?

Wow...... what's next? Auto shifters stuck in park and HB squealing and wobbling?
I thought GM would have addressed and remedied well documented failures of previous models when putting a new model out. Silly me.

C6's had fuel reading issues also. I had hoped the "fuel module" (sending unit) issue was put to rest. I plan on using fuel conditioner every 6000 miles and hope I never have it happen again.
