Thanks to all who took the time to write about their install and posting pictures. It gives us all the confidence to take on these upgrades.

Was this on a 2015 convertible?
The problem reported was due to a difference with the 2015 convertible mirror attachment. I believe due to the PDR.

Thank you for the clarification. Apparently there is a difference. Would appreciate to hear from anyone that has done this to a 2015 Vert.

Default Great thread

But alas I have a 2015 vert but the wiring should be the same.
I have the BM and a 9" Mirrortap to hook up a V1 and when the weather warms up a tad I will open the block behind the mirror and take a look see.
I have one question and it might be epically stupid but this whole thread I have seen reference to "car side" I do not know what this means?
Driver or passenger is all I understand.
I am so thankful for this thread as I do not have the proper volt meter to do the work so its off when car is off and on when its on. This helps a ton.
I would prefer a pro do this but the certified installer in Austin Texas didn't know they were a certified installer!!!!!!!!! hahahaha
By god at least they were honest about it.
Will do a face to face with them tomorrow.
Vert guys that have done this let us know dammit!!!

What length, the 9" or 12" do you guys that have done it recommend?

9" version is long enough.

I had no clue at all when I ordered regarding micro/nano/macro taps.
Color me ignorant on the subject. Why I need a local pro do help me not get in trouble. I had no probably doing anything to my two 69's but that was way before vehicle computers jacking with us.

Car side clarification: When you remove the cover piece behind the mirror you will expose a connector for wiring to the mirror. When you separate the connector consider the connector half going to the mirror the "mirror" side and the half going to the car the " car" side. On my 2014 vert the switched +12V is a purple wire on the car side. This power wire is not used by the mirror so there is no electrical connection through the connector to the mirror side. If you connect on the mirror side you will not get any power so connect on the car side. Good luck with the installation but you won't need it. It's actually very easy unless you're an old guy like me.

Adding an afterthought, you do not have to separate the connector. Doing that is only necessary to give you more slack in the wiring to work with. In my case it didn't.

A cheapo volt/ohm meter can be your best friend.

The smaller the tap, the easier they will be to insert in the connector. A very small (jeweler size) screwdriver will help wallow out the connector to accept the tap also.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. It really only took 30 minutes and has been fine ever since. (No blown fuses). Mine is a 15 Z51.
Thanks for the instructions!

So, instead of a Radar Detector, would this connection work for a Video Camera ?????

It could. I haven't checked but I suspect it's on a 10 amp fuse.
IMHO Swagging a video camera from the mirror is going to shake too much.

That's why you have to put the MT pins in the connector on the car side (not the mirror side). Side note, there really shouldn't be an issue with blowing a fuse because the RD uses less than one amp. If only one amp increase blows any fuse, there's some other issue going on, probably an installer created short. The MirrorTap has a one amp fuse built in.
A micro screwdriver will help with enlarging the holes for the pins because they are a tight fit.
Also if you route the wires correctly, you do not have to drill any holes in the cover.
Can you please tell me how you routed your wires to eliminate notching the cover? Others stated the cover will not fit without modifying the cover and I would rather not if I didn't have too.

Yes, I agree.

But I could mount it to the windshield to be more secure.
I was just looking for an easier power source.

Route the wire out the top. When the back cover is on, the wire comes out between the top of the cover and the roof.
