Mirror tap for radar detector for '15 Z51
Many thanks to fellow South Carolinian RX FOR ME for figuring this out and posting his method. Here is a slightly simplified way to tap mirror power with clearer photos. Very easy to do and looks so much better.
You do not have to remove the PDR camera cover. Simply pry the edge of the cover off.
Wire harness detaches from the cover with a little pressure on the tabs on the side.
There's a little tab on the car side of the assembly that allows the two halves to come apart.
Red wire from mirror tap goes alongside of purple wire on the car side of the wiring assembly. Black wire from mirror tap goes along black wire on car side of assembly. I used a small dental tool to make space for the mirror tap wires. A very small screwdriver would do the same thing.
I opted to use a Dremel tool to cut a little notch for the wire to exit. Worked well, but if you do this put the notch a little farther forward.
Finished! Looks and works great!
About 30 minutes of work. Hope this helps!

Nice work. I was looking at the mirror taps on the Blendmount site. Did you get a NANO (.040) or a Micro (.050). I would think the NANO would be better gibe how hard is it to push the taps into place? Did you use a 9" or 12" length tap?

This is what I bought. Took a little pressure but not really too bad. Worst part is just the position I had to be in to see everything. Helped to have my son hold a flashlight.

This popped fuses on 2014 models. Has this been changed for 2015 models?

For what it's worth, I did the same mod to my C6 and a Cadillac CTS I owned and never had a single issue. Same cord, same radar detector.

People that tried this with 2014 C7's had the fuse pop every time. GM stated that was because the wiring was not designed to handle the higher amperage of a radar detector. Perhaps something was changed with the 2015 model.

But, who knows. I will give it a try when the weather gets a little better

Thanks for the info. The link to the tap above stated it was for a auto-dimming mirror. Since I don't have that, I'll go with this.

I'll try MICRO .050

People were popping fuses trying to tap into the visor lights power, not this. Until recently no one thought this could be done on the C7 like it was on the C6. Someone cracked the code maybe 3 months ago or so and it works fine.

I believe it's the purple wire in the harness coming from the car that needs to be tapped with the positive.
