The Service Mgr reviewed the camera and they did install 6 qts 5-30 Mobil. An offer to redo the service was extended. Not necessary, my biggest concern was having 30 weight in it for a 2000+ mile trip in a week.
The dealer did what I asked. Sloppy documentation is what tripped up the visit. I'm sure they will pay better attention going forward.

I thought I read in the owners manual that an oil and filter change required 7 quarts for the dry sump motor?

7 qts puts it over full on the stick. 6 puts it half way between add and full. It is currently over full on the stick so I might crawl under and drain some off.

I picked it up for $18.41 shipped from Rockauto (after 5% discount code); this is the cheapest I could find it without having Amazon Prime. I ordered it late Thursday afternoon and it arrived Monday.

Interesting. Amazon listing says it will NOT fit a 2014 or 2015 Corvette. Maybe they are referring to the wet sump motor.

Default Maybe this will help with the Dexos debacle.

I went to my new Chevy dealer for an oil change this morning (I relocated). We went through the whole Dexos vs. Mobil 1 routine on my non Z51 2014 Stingray. I showed them the memo posted here on CF. They still were not convinced. Finally, I said "do what the hell you want to do with charges, but put Mobil in the G.D. car! Five minutes later the service manager came back, and said they investigated, (??????) and found a BRAND NEW GM instruction dated June 9, 2015 that makes all the crap we have been going through crystal clear. The Document ID is 4212517, and it is PIP5290A, and supersedes the original 5290.

on the very bottom under "Tip," it reiterates:

"USE ONLY MOBIL 1 WHEN PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE ON ANY CORVETTE UNDER THE CHEVROLET COMPLETE CARE PROGRAM.

I hope this will finally bring an end to the problems we have been having, but I doubt it.

They have no idea what physically fits or not, all they do is cross-reference part numbers.

Here's the cross-list reference for this particular cap:
CADILLAC CTS (2004 - 2011)
CADILLAC DTS (2008 - 2011)
CADILLAC SRX (2004 - 2009)
CADILLAC STS (2005 - 2010)
CADILLAC XLR (2008 - 2009)
CHEVROLET COBALT (2008 - 2010)
CHEVROLET CORVETTE (2006 - 2013)
CHEVROLET HHR (2008 - 2010)
PONTIAC SOLSTICE (2007 - 2009)
SATURN SKY (2007 - 2010)

Absolutely incredulous that we are still hearing stories like this. I agree with you. Buy the oil on sale at Walmart and a filter from the dealer and do it your self. The "free oil changes" are not worth the hassle. Sorry to hear about your story. I wouldn't go back to this dealer. You must have a lot of choices out there on the west coast.

Not surprised. Most dealers service departments are completely clueless. They will F with your car and break other stuff. I will not allow the dealer to do oil changes for the exact reason your mentioned. They do not read any tech bulletins, directives, or updates. GM could care less. "GM Trained" means "Beware: Untrained"

Car only goes to dealer for critical stuff that I can not fix myself. And then I worry while it is in there about what they will break next. Sad.

#PIP5290: Oil Change information For 2014-2015 Chevrolet Corvette - (May 11, 2015)
Subject: Oil Change information For 2014-2015 Chevrolet Corvette
Models: 2014-2015 Chevrolet Corvette
6.2L LT1 with wet sump oiling system or non-Z51
6.2L LT1 and LT4 with Option Z51, Z52, and Z06 Dry Sump Engine W/Manual or Auto Trans

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern

Oil Change Information on 2014-2015 Chevrolet Corvette as stated in the Chevrolet Complete Care Program

Recommendation/Instructions

The 2014-2015 Chevrolet Complete Care Program for Corvettes was designed to take into account Mobil1 is the oil of choice for many Corvette owners.

As a reminder, dealers are required to use Mobil 1 when performing oil changes on ALL 2014-2015 Corvettes through the Chevrolet Complete Care Program

Current reimbursement levels for Corvette are based on Mobil 1 usage. Please remind all personnel that only Mobil 1 should be used.

In addition, please refer to Global Connect message # G_0000205212 for details on dry sump equipped (Z51, Z52, and Z06) Corvettes.

The non-Z51 Stingrays also receive Mobil1 with the Dexos spec while under the Chevrolet Complete Care program.

The only difference is non-Z51 Stingrays do not receive the 500 mile break-in oil change

GM has changed the required maintenance schedule for all 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with dry sump systems.

The new schedule will require the oil/filter be changed immediately after the break-in period, which occurs after the first 500 miles of operation.

Once the break-in oil change is performed and the Oil Life Monitoring system is reset, customers should follow the Oil Life Monitoring system for all future oil change needs.

Tip: Only use Mobil 1 when performing an oil change on any Corvette under the Chevrolet Complete Care Program.

Been there, done that. Trying a new dealer (not the one that sold me the car), They have 1 certified Vette mechanic with a very good reputation. They also sponsor a well known Corvette Club in the area.

NO. Dry sump (Z51/Z06 requires 9.3 quarts for an oil and filter change. That will put it half way up the hash marks on the dip stick. Perfect!

7 quarts is the specification for the NON dry sump (non Z51, non Z06)

Not sure i understand why folks want to spend $15 for the sole purpose of advertising for Exxon.

Let's just say my enthusiasm for that company and its lack of ethics would not entice me to advertise for them on my car. I'll take the 'free' oil that Chevrolet pays for but that's about as far as it goes. All energy companies are not the same. I don't have a problem with the energy industry, just that one company.

Still see no reason to pay money to advertise for them. If they want to advertise on Corvettes, they should pay for the caps. Absolutely nothing wrong or worse looking about the cap that Chevrolet already provides. The replacement is not a dress up item, its advertisement.
