Same here. My c6 was a z51. There was never all this yaya about the "base" vs z51. And yes, having autocrossed both, I know there was a noticeably large difference in handling between the two.

The back of the 2015 dealer brochure lists the Z51 as a separte model as does the corvette black book for the 2014 and 2015 Z51 has its own model number while all other Z51 from previous generations was just listed as a option.

What I think is weird is every z71 truck has a sticker on the truck yet no one actually say they have a Silverado z71..They say they have a Silverado or truck. Seems almost every z51 owner calls it a z51 to the point of creepiness and it has no badging...
its not a z06...its a Stingray.

The point is it is ALL marketing. Do you think the engineers decided to not put a stingray badge (lol) on the Z06 for functional purposes? No, it's to distinguish the Z06 brand.
I removed my Stingray badges anyways, they are dumb looking and out of place. I guess I have a Camaro now.

Waiting for mine to come in mail, I get OP's point Z71 is the same Difference as a Z51 both packages to suspension etc., but you see them on a lot of different Trucks etc. I think it is significant enough to label it, if not don't put the Z in front of it.

Several publications and the brochure lists the Z51 as a separate model. Either way they are both amazing cars, but I'd disagree that it isn't a different model....the brochure lists it that way.
Also, go on kbb.com and try to price one. It will ask if you have a Stingray, Stingray Z51 or Z06.

Per the Online Order/Reference Guide, there are 6 "Models":

Does the official brochure have anything to do with what theyre called....because it also lists it as its own model.

Some of us would like a little recognition that we went the extra step (and maybe sacrifice)
to get a Z51
separates us from the gold chain wearing bozos who lease a plain jane base C7 and wear a Z06 T Shirt while putting down Mustang and Camaro owners

You're mistaken.....Z51 is the new gold chain. Everybody knows the real hardcore guys buy a base and modify it. Z51 overheats and pukes oil at anything over a starbucks pace.

The VIN Sets It Apart
If it has a separate VIN, it is a separate model. Going back to my Pontiac GTO roots, the base model was the Tempest, then came the T37, the GT37, the LeMans, the LeMans GT and the GTO. Each had a different VIN. Nowadays, you have to look at the VIN at a car show to distinguish the clones from the true 242 VIN GTOs.
There will be those who clone a Z51 and there will be those who clone the Z06. At a car show or cruise night, the only way to tell the difference will be the VIN. I happen to be a purist and if GM didn't put the badge on the car, I won't either. There will be those who will swear that their car is a ZXX because it has all the right visual clues...including badging...but the VIN doesn't lie.
At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter unless one tries to fraudulently misrepresent the model to a buyer.

Finalist 2020 C7 of the Year -- Unmodified
Exactly what I have been saying it is NOW RECOGNIZED as it own and separate model for coupe and convertible with separate vin#'s. Before the C7 on all other generations Z51 was just a option and I had a C6 05 Z51 and never called it its own model. It is now its OWN MODEL no arguing with the facts but I will not be putting any Z51 badges on my car unless GM installs them from the factory on future MODEL year Z51 cars and I buy one of those.

But, but....where does it say Base?
While this IS a funny post, you do realize that you can buy a z51 for less than alot of the "base" cars, right?

BTW, my C7 is a Base Convertible, I don't wear Gold Chains.
In fact the car in my Avatar is not something a Gold Chain wearing bozo drives.
However, for me I always try to buy the lowest priced Vette I can, my C7 only has two options, A6 automatic (I am a drag racer) and Convertible (when you live in a cold climate you try to get sun in whenever you have a nice day.
I am really getting sick of the posers who need to validate their egos....
Z51 vs base, A8 Vs A6, NPP vs Non-Npp, M7 vs automatic, 1lt vs 2lt/3lt, Coupe vs Convertible.
While I love to discusss the differences, I never bash anyone, until this moment.
