Where did you (and your car) hang out as a kid?
Growing up in NE Phila., and Huntingdon Valley Pa on Friday nights, and Saturdays we would take our cars to the Big Boys' on Roosevelt Blvd, and to the Hot Shop Jr. on 611 in Jenkintown. They were great days!
Just thought it might bring back some memories, seeing where people, and their cars hung out as kids! Not just in Phila., but all over!

It's probably about the same everywhere. In Oak Grove, LA we would ride around the courthouse square, then cruise down around the Burger Boy Drive-in, and back to the Square to lap the opposite direction. When we weren't on this route, we were out in the country doing things we probably shouldn't have.....but boy was it fun.

We'd cruise the main street in town and occasionally gather in the parking lot of some big department store and shoot the breeze. Lots of good times back then. Now the store owners call the police if anyone gathers in their parking lots and doesn't come in to shop.

In Minneapolis/St. Paul the hot spots were the Sun Drive In in NE Mpls., Porky's Drive In on University Ave. St. Paul, and cruising Lake Street which basically connected the cities. Back then before Corvettes I had a '68 Chevelle SS 396 then a '70 GTO. First 'Vette was a '69 427 bought used in '74 but by then the whole scene was winding down.

Porky's/University Ave (Midway) in St. Paul, "Redrocks" industrial area south of that for racing, and sometimes the Taco Bell in Plymouth, MN for just hanging out/late-night snack during nice weather.

Lake Street in Minneapolis, sometimes ended up at a drive inn near Minnehaha falls that always had fresh strawberry pie.

I grew up in Union, NJ, and I had a 61 Comet which got me back and forth to my local college. Not much you can do car wise with a Comet. Although I had some ridiculous mods-my cloth front bench seat were ripped so I covered it with a bed sheet and used magic marker to draw in buckets seats and a console. In addition, I had job as a baton assembler and put baton ***** and tips on my gear shifter and radio *****. As you can guess I did not attract sophisticated girls back then.

Where I grew up, everyone would go "cruise Franklin", which was a six lane highway through town. People would park at the turn around spots, which was a gas station on one end, and a burger king on the other. People went out there mostly for racing and for meeting chicks. Good times. I once got pulled over when I nailed it pulling out and ran it up to 75 in a 35. It was a police lady who was kinda hot. She let me off the hook. A month later, I got pulled again and I wasn't so lucky.

North Woodward - Ted's drive-in -- 426 A-series wedge in a Black 63 Plymouth purchased used from Down River Chrysler/Plymouth. I remember the car was supposedly campaigned as a backup A-Superstock but never turned the times they wanted. Got it cheap; It ran N. Woodward very well !! (except for a couple blown torque converters) lol

Frisch's Big Boy. We'd take our cars there, park in a space and order food over the individual intercoms that the carhops would bring. We'd hang out telling lies and laughing, and check out the girls who cruised the place. They had a rent a cop and it became a game pushing the limit with what we could get away with without getting in trouble. Races would be arranged between the guys with fast cars, bets were placed, and there would be a caravan out to the straightaway in front of the high school on a 2 lane country road. Races were 1/4 mile and there was a starter in the middle of the road and when he dropped his arm for the go he'd run out of the way. I had a metallic blue 66 Chevelle with chrome rally wheels, big tires in the back and narrow on the front. Glass pacs to make it sound cool. It looked good and sounded good but it was a stock 283 automatic so I knew better than to race it when challenged. Always wished I had a fast car back then. I'm waiting on my new C7 now and I'm going to love it!

How about that Rogergcam ! We'd cruise down to the Hot Shoppe in Jenkintown and cruise up York Road to Hatboro and then back down to the Hot Shoppe. All night long. Along the way we'd stop, talk or run other cars. They were good times..like a scene out of American Graffitti. I grew up in Willow Grove and once in a while we'd go down to Big Boy's on the Blvd!! But the girls down there were all stuck up!!

we would meet at the Big Bite restaurant and then go cruising Broadway(Portland Oregon) looking to pick up girls. We called it dragging the gut. Good way to show off our cars. A few years later the cops closed it off to cruisers because too many people abused the privilege and caused trouble, and of course drugs.

Famed Woodward Avenue baby! A Detroit Tradition! Where cruising began. From the 40's 50's till now. Now they have made it the largest cruise in the world I grew up here and won't miss this event. Last year it drew around 1.5 million people and 40,000 to 50,000 classics. Mindboggling lol The route is 17 miles long ,4 lanes each way and goes through 7 different citys. Its a car lovers dream. www.woodwarddreamcruise.com

Same here. Drive down b the water, park, have a few beverages and watch the rolling car show. Connecting Highway was the place to be, featured in many magazines like Hot Rod and others. Wish I can turn back time.
