Default Center console problem

I have a short in the brown wire leading from the console plug in. I followed it as far as the steering wheel column and then lost it.Its drawing 2/10 of an amp.
When the bulb is in the battery light socket it stays on even when there's no key in the ignition, it goes off when the car is running.
The insertion of the battery light, lightbulb will power the gauges in the console up, but non work, the needles just jump a bit, when I pull the bulb out the gauges flatline. I have installed a new circuit sheet in the back I am getting power out of the plug.
Any ideas about what's going on
This problem happened suddenly, all the gauges fail at once. Fuse is ok.
