Default Info on Vents

I am still thinking of ordering a new C7. I have noticed in many pictures that some have the vents (above the rear wheels) and some don't. I am trying to figure out which order options include the vents. I see some options for colors of the vents, but I am not sure which cars come with the vents. Talking to my local dealers about options is like talking to a brick.

I don't think the convertibles have vents, but the coupes do.

That is the situation. Apparently to make room for the top storage there was no room. They supply air to the trans and rear end coolers via ducts underneath.
On the Z51 both fender vents are functional to supply air to those coolers.

Convertibles don't have vents because it would not work with the top!!

Picturescan be a bit confusing at first glance until you know what you are looking at. Key differences in the cars are convertible, coupe, zf1 appearance package, z51, and z06. Educate yourself on these items and the vents will become second nature and you will understand the cars quite well.

Which leads to a second question. Are the vents on a "base" coupe functional or just there for show?

I have a Z51 convertible. No vents on fender, not enough room with folding top. Z51 Coupes have the vents. Not sure about other models but I know when they inroduced the C7, that was pointed out by GM rep. at the time.

This would be correct. no rear fender top vents on the rag tops The rag tops have them but they are hidden in the wheel wells.

Driver side vent leads to a transmission cooler. Passenger side vent is non-functional---no openings.

That placement looks like a good place for trash, mud, etc to get trapped. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Hmm, and I like that show! If they said that they were incorrect, GM engineers would be upset at the comment!
All the vents including those at the rear are functional with the Z51 coupe, both send air to the coolers mounted in the rear of each fender. With and automatic transmission or the Z51 even with standard trans the driver’s side vent directs air over a heat exchanger for the transmission fluid and a similar arrangement on the passenger side directs air over a heat exchanger for the electronic limited slip differential on the Z51. Airflow through the differential and transmission heat exchangers exit through the tail lamp vents and lower-rear fascia air outlets exit air from the rear brake cooling as I recall.
Some models, like I believe for the base car, the passenger side fender vent is nonfunctional.

Good pic. Here is a pic of the Differential Cooler on the Passenger Side. On Z51 the vent is functional. On mine, a piece of wire goes over a foot into the vent bottom.

On Z51 Passenger Vent is Functional and Brings Air to Differential Cooler.
