My car was built March 11 2014.

The vin last six digits = 118255

It has the recall.

You can register your car and see all about it on this link.

Pulled the cover off my car far enough to peer down the filler tube to see what was there. Evidently the infamous grid is still sitting firm!

No letter from GM yet.

#15493 and mine is on the recall. Will look tonight to see if it is still in place but regardless it looks like I'm heading to the dealer.

Send me a PM if Tech or Mod needs exact 5 numbers. Our numbers in this thread are easily
found with google search.

Got my service manuals in the mail today, and it looks like that if the grid is still in place (not in the tank), then the filler neck can be replaced through the wheel well without removing the tank... Just replace the filler neck down to the hose clamp...

Just went threw my mail. No info yet. I was told the mail out would begin on the third so all of us effected should be receiving some info soon.

Thanks for sharing that info.

Can you gain any insight from the manual regarding what could be affected in the fuel tank if the grid happens to come loose and drop into the tank?

TIA.

When I can get to my 2014 (too much snow now) I'll check the gas filler pipe and hope the grid plate is still in place. Looks like early April will be the soonest I can get it to the dealer.

The fuel pump and fuel level sensor go into the top of the tank as a unit, so it appears the only thing the grid could interfere with is the suction to the pump and maybe the operation of the fuel gauge. (assuming the grid is heavy enough that it would stay on the bottom of the tank)

It would appear to me that the potential for more damage exists from the prospect of tearing the entire rear end of the car apart to fish out that little screen, then just leaving the screen in the tank...

Tex,

Thank you for adding to this informative thread on the fly, and for answering my question. It is appreciated and helps me understand what we are dealing with.

That's kind of what I was thinking too but it may be wise to let the dealer perform the relatively non-invasive filler tube replacement to avoid even a small chance of trouble later. Got a while to think about it while the snow melts!

I wouldn't Lie2U!!

Guess I will be checking my vin and to see if the screen is still in the fill tube when I get home Saturday or Sunday.

Default Parts on order!

My grid is still in place. The dealer has ordered parts for this recall and the windshield washer tank issue mentioned by others. Installation is scheduled for 3/24 after I get back from Spring Mountain!!!

The weather has broken - highs in the 50's and 60's for the next week!!!

Just had the dealer handle two recalls (Windshield Fluid Tank and the Anti-Siphon issue). They ordered the parts, made my appointment, and was in/out of there in about 3 hours. Not a bad wait time considering.

Probably took longer to replace the washer fluid tank than the fuel nozzle...The washer tank also comes out the bottom and requires that the front wheel well liner be removed...

Mine (114460) is on the list. Checked dealer and he didn't have the part, but ordered it and mine goes in this Wednesday, 11th. Service director told me that it could take up to 11 hours to fix. Some can be fixed in as little as an hour, but under certain conditions they have to pull the fuel tank and that takes up to 11 hours. Yikes!!!!

I sure hope they don't have to do anything this major to mine. At least they have assured me that only certified vette techs touch the vetttes in service. Still scares me. Will report back on Thursday.
