Auto 6 vs Auto 8

Auto 6 vs Auto 8
I have a 2014 Z51 auto 6 with 1000 miles on it. It goes ok, but I haven't driven an A8. Is it worth trading it for an A8, or is the difference so minimal I should keep the A6 until a later revision (say 2016) comes out?
Comments from people familiar AND driven both please, not just a heresay opinion from some that have driven one but not the other.
Are there any really sticking points between the 2?

Lots of threads on this subject (gets pretty heated). Do a quick search on the forum and you'll find more info than you probably want (and certainly more than you're asking for)

I have read a few, but they drift because people who haven;t owned or driven both like to add their opinion.
i wish to have facts only please.

By the numbers the A8 is faster shifting, lighter, gets better MPG, and quicker to 60 (per GM). Drag times are still debatable as not many A8's have had a chance to hit the track being first option year and Winter. Probably won't make much difference except to the die-hard guys who really know their stuff. I think most people agree that given the choice (with no $ difference), the A8 is the newer and better technology. A6 is fantastic and a proven platform. If you can save some money by going that route, it's definitely worth considering, but that's where you're talking bang-for-the-buck which is no longer objective, but rather subjective. That's where these threads always turn to the negative. Go drive them both.

I have driven both....
Okay, but I warned you.

even if the difference is enormous, at this point the 2016 will be revealed soon, so just wait to see whats in store since you already own a C7...

My 09 and 08 where A6 and they would go into limp when shifting at WOT, I hated that. This A8 shifts really nice at WOT, I am glad that I waited now.

Not sure what you mean by go into limp. The A6 was already fast shifting (give credit to GM for shaving off additional milliseconds on the A8) but the quickness is not day/night over the A6. It's certainly not enough to be measured by the seat of your pants comparing a 2014 to 2015.

Fairly simple discussion, A8 is an improvement over the A6 but trading a 1000 mile 2014 just to get the A8 seems like a gross waste of money. If there are other things on the 2015 or 2016 that you wish you had on your 2014 then it changes the math. Only you can make that descision.

Scraping the splitter.
IMO the shift speed of the A8 is modestly quicker, but both shift quickly. That feeling is exacerbated under WOT because the A8 is more aggressively geared and shifts more frequently. The A8 also downshifts more quickly and the rev matching is a bit better.
If it were me, the A8 improvements do NOT justify the cost to move from a 1000 mile '14 Z51 to a '15 with an A8.
I had a '14 A6 Z51 and now have a '15 A8 Z06.

The new version of the A6 in the C7 is much improved over the A6 in the '08 and '09 C6. I don't think the limp mode issue exists.

I have driven both and both are amazing sports cars in their own right. However, I can say when I drove the A8, it was noticeably quicker from my experience. I went with the A8 Z51 because of all the C7s I drove, it seemed to have the most "seat of your pants" difference in reference to quickness and handling. Would I trade from an A6 to an A8 for that reason alone.... No I would not. The loss you would take in depreciation for the difference in transmission is not something I would consider to be a good financial decision.

Is a transmission with two extra gears worth $10k? Your probably guaranteed to have to cough up the that much extra to go to a 2015 when you trade yours in. I'm amazed anyone would even consider it just for a tranny, talk about a first world problem. Heh, like my new car it has two extra gears but looks just like the old one, I'm sure anyone that you explained that to would be mightily impressed.

I have the A8 and love it, really didn't line the 2010 A6 (seemed to shift slow) but I am sure they made improvements and don't think I'd trade the 2014 in just for the transmission. Although you can make a good deal on 2015s now, so it might not be so bad. But.. 16 is right around the corner.....

Each generation of Corvette improves each year of production. The A8 is an improvement over the A6 just as the A6 was an improvement over the A4. That is a fact.
To cost justify trading in a 2014 for a 2015 over a transmission is something that you have to seriously consider. The best way to make that decision is to drive a 2015 with the A8.......just remember the 2016 will be out with more improvements
