Default Failed State Inspection

My new 2015 C7 has failed Tx state smog inspection. I have four systems showing not ready. I was told to put more miles on and bring it back I had 25 miles on the first check. I put another 50 miles and returned to have a recheck one system cleared but still have 3 systems not ready showing. Any way to clear the systems other than putting on miles?

Not that I know of...put a few hundred miles on it.

How does a new car fail a state inspection? Has it been modified or tampered with?

Easy. Many emission systems are time/miles based. As in when you "Reset" the status bits in the Powertrain/Engine Control Module (PCM/ECM) they take time and or miles to run the test. All new PCM/ECMs come to the factory "Reset" obviously so until you have 500 or so miles all the emission information is not set in the module.

The testing guys know this, and that is why they told him to drive more miles.

Usually if a car is brand new, you don't even have to be hooked up, they automatically pass you. I went with mine and they made me go around the building and just gave me a sticker.

Not sure what is going on there...I have had recently several people fail on Brand New 2015's...ONLY IN TEXAS, I would only guess, that is has to be something they are doing, just seems odd...

Why does it even have to be inspected? It's a brand new car? In NJ, you don't have to have a new car inspected for 4 years.

Happens in California also with low miles.

In CA, if you buy out of state, it needs to be smogged. No problem with mine since I had 2500 miles on it when smogged.

This makes NO sense at all.....I am in Texas.....and WHY is the OP having it inspected at all.....every new car dealer in the state is state certified and inspects EVERY new car that comes on their lot and it gets an inspection sticker placed on it.

The only thing that could have happened is that the OP bought his car from out of state and now he has to get it inspected in Texas.....and as of March 1st, you can't even register your car without a VALID Inspection.

Did you buy the car in the Houston area? If so the dealer should have given you a 2 year sticker. If purchased from a out of state dealer then it's on you, put a few more miles on it..

Put a new battery in my Dodge truck and went for an inspection. Truck failed and was told to put 50 miles on it. Put about 100 miles and it passed. This is North Jersey...

I just got my 2015 Z51 and the dealer put a sticker for 2 years and I didn't notice that.

Not always true. I bought out of state but DMV did not even ask for a smog when I took it in for the Ca. Title.

Different parts of the state are under different EPA orders... out here in the sticks there is no smog testing (Thank God!) and we get an initial 2 year sticker.

Mine did not pass here in California initially either - two sensors were not ready at 400 miles or so.

I took it back at about 550 miles and passed - done and done. They can check the data port with a handheld to see if the sensors are ready before actually hooking it up to test.

Did you get a courtesy delivery? If you buy local it should come with the sticker.

I still don't understand what fails

what's failing? do the cats need more smog deposit to build up on them? is the system too clean? are the o2 sensors not 'turned' on in the car for first few hundred miles?

no such thing in FL, so I'm clueless.

You have to put miles on it, cannot short cut the process that involves the sensors and info compiled by the ecs.

In Connecticut we have a new car 4 year moratorium on emissions testing, cannot see why Texas has to check emissions on a new vehicle.
