New C7 Z51 on dealer floor
I stopped by my local dealer a couple days ago and they have a Blue 2015 Z51 on the showroom floor, sticker price around 75K. I was appalled to see the condition of the paint. Full of swirls from careless washing, they obviously don't care and had their minimum wage wash monkeys wash this beautiful Corvette! It is also sitting unguarded, no ropes or blockade of any kind to keep people away from it and it's full of smudges from hands touching. The car isn't even locked to keep people from getting in. Totally shameful IMO! I feel sorry for the person that lays out that kind of money for this.

It should be locked, roped off and guarded? Seriously???
It's a Chevrolet that costs what some new SUVs and pickups cost, and they're outside on the lot. Smudges and fingerprints wash off.

I can see having it locked, but roped off, guarded, etc. is a bit overboard.

I was down in Orlando last week and went to Epcot theme park with my wife and kids. Upon exiting the ride, "Test Track" they had a VY Z51 in the gift shop area, people were literally sitting on the hood taking selfies.

I park mine in parking lots and don't rope it off. Someone could touch it. Shocking!

I say yes on the locked but rope and guards? It's not a LaFerrari, it's a Chevy.
Light swirls and hand prints are nothing to polish out with a good paint correction polish and a D/A.
I bought a black 15 off the dealers floor and while there were no chips there were micro scratches in the paint and hand prints everywhere. One afternoon with my D/A and Maguiar's medium cutting disc and their paint correction liquid and it was perfect.

unguarded meaning no ropes or barriers. So why does Corvette museum have roped off areas around the Vettes if nobody cares? Did any of you who don't care allow your cars to be washed by people who couldn't care less if they rub dirt and contaminates around and swirl the paint? I think not. Its a brand new 75K toy.....somebody's future dream car. it should be treated as such by the dealer. I'll bet money that If you see somebody messing with your car in a lot....especially brand new in the dealer showroom you would have a different view of the situation.....unless you have more money than common since.....which I don't.

Chill dude. It's just a car. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm a fanatic about how my car looks. Most damage done by sloppy PDI guys can easily be fixed. It's not worth stressing over.
As far as why the NCM ropes off the cars, that is meant to make the owners spending an extra grand to pick them up there feel all warm and comfy inside. Same reason they have monitors view-able on the web of all the customer cars getting NCM delivery.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to do NCM one day. The money is not the issue why I don't do it. I just don't do well waiting for things.
The whole NCM experience is something to have at least once in your life but it's more about the "total experience" than protecting an owners car IMO.

Besides, the more micro scratches and swirls the more money you can get off the price by telling them the car needs to have the paint corrected since some unskilled moron took a rotary to it.
My guess is if it's a small local dealer, and its the only Corvette on their floor, they won't want to move much on $$ anyway.

I have a collapsible bubble I place around my car in all parking lots. Unfortunately, 3 times in the last 2 weeks I couldn't get in to it myself...

I think the idea of being on the dealer's floor is to get people to look and feel and want one!
I'm sure the paint can be buffed out if it's really that bad. I'm guessing I wouldn't notice it.
If it were a sold car, no, I don't think it should be where people can paw all over it and get in it.

People stress over the paint and fingerprints everywhere. Lets face it, unless you park the car and never touch/use it the blemishes and marks will appear. I purchased the car to use and enjoy. Not to display and show.

I already surrendered, But......the point is this is not an owners car that is being driven and encountering everything that driving and enjoying our Vettes entails. This is sitting in the dealers showroom with intent to sell. OK I'm done now.

It's all perspective, Bill. My BMW lot has 200 cars that ALL cost more than a Corvette - just sitting outside in the sun, in the rain, etc.
I asked them why they didn't keep the i8 out there too? They said, "Are you kidding me? It's an i8."
Go figure...

Surely the OP jests. I've seen Suburbans, Tahoes, Caddys, etc. that cost more than a Vette. The only part of the post I can agree with is that the person detailing the car should have been more careful. No one wants a car that is covered in scratches and swirl marks.

My cars exterior has an electric current...if you touch the exterior is zaps you
No but seriously...roped off is going over board but i don't disagree that it should be locked. Thats how it was at my dealer
