Default Texas--Can I order special plates before my car is registered??

I'm on myplates.com website (the TX DoT website for plates). It looks like I can order my special plates with out any car information. Is this correct?

I'm picking up my car tomorrow and was just curious if anyone knew if this is ok?

Thanks

Edit: I went ahead and just ordered it. I figured if it need my car info it would have asked. I think when the plates arrive at county I have to pick them up. From there they probably register them to the car.

I did this. Ordered a car from out of state, but ordered my specialty plates through my myplates.com prior to receiving the car. I drove around with temp plates for over a month until my regular (not specialized) plates were sent to me from the dealership. Once I got those (my special plates were already at the tax office), you just need to take those in and swap them for your new plates. FYI - you can have the tax office ship them to a different office if there's one closer to you.

I must not be being creative enough, because everything I searched for was taken.

I might try again.

obviously you already know....but yes you can.....you can order any plate at any time.....but you can't pick them up until you are actually registering them to a vehicle. as its part of the registration.....and if you look at the registration sticker on your windshield, you will see your plate number on the sticker.

These are specialized plates not personlized It's the all black plates in texas. I don't do the personalized stuff. Maybe when i'm pushing some high HP I will but until then I am just trying to fit in with the flow of traffic!

Got the same (Generic Black) for my DSOM Z51 Coupe, but put black tape on the white section and a black plate holder on it in the Aero mount so you just see Texas - Plate N0#.

Agreed but personalized plates look great too me!, I love your plates btw..mine aren't as neat but I have GR8 C7 on my 2014 Corvette ..You use to be able to buy the personalized plates in Texas from my plates.com for ten years. However, I was told after November last year ( in Texas anyways) you can only buy them for five years not ten years.

I ordered my Texas PLP when I ordered my car. They held the plates at the court house until the dealer registered the car and picked them up for me. You do have to show you have paid the taxes and registration.
