I think they should be commended for being honest about what they specialize in. The body shop I've used for my DDs has told me they don't like to do 'fiberglass' - I appreciated them being candid with me. Believe me, having owned a small business, I would have loved the revenue on some jobs, but I knew what made my reputation. Attitude or not, no need to take it personally.

Ive had at least 3 shops tell me that in my area. No biggie. Corvettes arent your specialty. Thank you. Have a nice day.

There are a number of responses that state the OP should be happy the body shop was honest regarding their limitations. That I agree with. The OP also stated the body shop personnel responded to him with an attitude. That was wrong and bad business! The body shop should have cheerfully responded something like this, "we'd be happy to assist you, however we are not equipped to work on Corvettes at this time". Attitude makes all the difference!

I'd take it they don't have the necessary skills!

Well, you wouldn't"t go to a proctologist for dental work. Some shops specialize.

It may have been helpful for the shop to recommend a shop that does work on Corvettes.......but, I guess when your customer service stinks to begin with, that would never happen.

Probably a blessing that they turned you away. I wouldn't take anything else there either. That's how it works in the business world. Sadly some get it, some don't.

Chicago & surrounding burbs are an enormous market, so yes there'll be shops who're selective what they will or won't do. Ain't America great.

Good news is there has to be dozens if not hundreds of shops who'll gladly welcome your business with open arms. Just have to let your fingers do the walking & find 'em.

Give Auto Body Unlimited a try. I'm not sure if they will work on Corvettes, but I've used them in the past for other cars and was pleased with the results.

http://autobodyunltd.com/

5100 Thatcher Road in Downers Grove, IL 60515 Phone: 630-964-9694

Another alternative in the area might be Royal Coach in Addison.

http://www.royalcoach.com/

and finally, I had Eryops Bodycraft in Carol Stream do a bare metal repaint of a Fiat 124 Spider that turned out great.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Eryop...15578498497086

Out of these three, at least one of them should be able to tackle a Corvette

First, cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it.

Second, why are you taking a corvette wanting custom paint work to a ghetto collision repair shop?

Take it to a custom paint shop.

Your second sentence is probably the true reason they don't work on Corvettes!

Thanks for the shout out Bill! Hope you're enjoying the new powder coated brake calibers.

This sounds like an opportunity for a new thread.

Best body shops you've had experience with. Only Corvette shops ;-)

Default Pete at Showstoppers is amazing and in northern Illinois

[QUOTE=ArcticC7;1589307325]Yea I'm going to look into a wrap place too. I may end up doing the roof myself with paint. I used to sell / make reverse painted license plate bubbles for C5s so I do have experience painting plastics with automotive paints.

Pete at Showstoppers painted my arctic white Z51 Singer stripe and the results are incredible!!! It is way better imho then a raised "sticker" stripe. ALL his work is Custom and owns a stingray. He is a supporting Forum vendor and is located in northern Illinois. I drove from indiana to have it done right. If you are looking for cheap don't waste your time. If you want it done right and buried under multiple coats of clear see Pete and tell him Anthony Coberg sent you. The comments I get on my Custom stinger painted stripe made it worth the time and $$ but that's just me good luck
