Default More noise from Z51/ZF1 tires than base?

The recent cell phone thread got me thinking, the one where some say they can't be heard using the Bluetooth phone at highway speeds over the tire noise. I've been puzzled by other threads where folks are unhappy with tire noise.

I don't think the tire noise in my C7 is bad at all, certainly no worse than my C5 or C6 was with either Goodyear or Michelin run flats. So here's the thing---I have the base 18-19 wheels with the same size tires as a C6.

So, I wonder if the C7 tire noise is only an issue with the Z51/ZF1 19-20 super-low profile tires, and not due to any lack of sound-proofing in the C7 cabin.

If you are unhappy with the tire noise in your C7, what size tires are you running? I have zero issues with tire noise with base tires.

I have driven the Z51 equipped car and it is noisier than my non Z51 . I attribute it to the lower profile tire and the stiffer suspension in the Z51 equipped car.

There was some tire / road noise in my Z51 coupe, but nothing really bad. I installed the sound proofing material behind the seats and it's a big improvement over stock. The Michelins are not noisy tires compared to the Goodyear run flats. There's just not a lot of sound proofing material behind the seats and the cargo area.

I have the base 18/19 and thought about getting the 19/20 wheels but worry about 2 things. Noise, not as much. Main worry is about how low profile the 19/20's are. Being that i live in Michigan with crappy roads i don't feel comfortable having such low profile tires on my car. Need some extra rubber on the tires incase i do hit a couple pot holes here and there.

See, that's the thing. I feel absolutely no need to install any kind of soundproofing whatsoever---the tire noise just isn't that noticeable in my car, just like it wasn't in my C6.

I am beginning to suspect the base tires have way less noise at highway speeds than the Z51/ZF1 tires.

Anyone else want to confirm they do or do not have excessive tire noise and with what tires?

I have 19-20 TSW's on the wife's Stingray, along with the Z51 sized PSS tires, and no excessive tire noise here. Just got finished with the second 1000+ mile trip in 6 weeks and no issues of note.

My 2014 ZF1 is a lot quieter than my 07 Z06. That's all I know or care about.

19/20's make no perceivable difference whatsoever if you are using your car as a a DD....IMO

My Z51 equipped 2014 is very quiet. At speed my wife and I can hold a conversation with no problems. I do not dispute others observations. I do think there may be differences car to car. My car was delivered in Oct 2013. There may be changes in the tires since then. Who knows?

It also depends on the road that you are on. Smooth asphalt paved road and its quiet. Older concrete/cement roads and it does get noticeably louder

Same here except my C6 was a base with stock GY runflats. My C7 with ZF1 is noticeably quieter, but I can't say how it rates vs. a C7 with standard tires.

I had sound proofing in my C6 Z06 and C6 Coupe (loud exhaust). My wife didn't have an issue with the C7 cabin noise. I already bought the Fat Mat material, so why not install it.

I have a 2015 base coupe with 19/20 tires, ZF1 package, switched tires to Michelin AS 3s. I think there's a terrible road noise, mostly from the back. Isn't as bad, maybe, as the OEM tires. On a smooth asphalt road it isn't too bad but a road with lots of gravel mixed in or a worn cement road its noisy. I'm slow to bite the bullet but sound reduction is going to be a must have mod. The whole car is a sounding board. Just tap on the under side of the floor pan with your fingernails, under the driver's seat, to hear it. Or tap under the wheel wells on the liner, noisy as can be, especially in the rain. Water drums on the liners terribly. I bought the Stingray to be a luxury sports car, nice, quiet, (until you want the NPP to roar) go-like-hell pleasure car. I want to hear my music not the road.

I doubt there is much difference at all between the 18/19 versus 19/20 otherwise same tires.

My ZF1 is noiser after adding the Z51 Sway bars due to more noise transfer into the car through the addition of the rear bar, links and having harder ruber bushings.

If you don't like tire noise don't get the Cup2's. My Z07 is as loud or worse than the old 99 convertible it replaced. I'm hoping the new pss non run flats coming soon will be a bit better.

But really its a sports \ race car......

My base 2014 convertible is considerably quitier than my C4 convertible was. At normal speeds, even with the top down, conversing isn't a problem.

I have a new Z51 with only 700 mi. Because of the issues on my C5 and my G8's ( which I Dynamated the trunks with great success), I installed Fat Mat, RATTLE TRAP MAT on the bulkhead behind the seats as well as the entire flat area of the rear, including the back wall and all the wheel well areas. THEN.. I added their Rubber MEGA MAT over all the Rattle Trap Mat. Finished it yesterday, took around 7-8 hrs and about $150.00 in Fat Mat products. Have lots left for other projects. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! The car is definitely quieter. Hard to hear the exhaust in the closed mode. The BASS is fantastic. Radio and music sound is much clearer... not muddy or tinny. Here in FL, the roads don't cause excessive tire noise... so can't comment on that, but based on what I have experienced in IOWA with horrible tire noise on some road surfaces, it has to be much better than stock.

This is probably the best MOD I have done for driver and passenger comfort!!!!

Have Z51 and have no idea what type of "road noise" people are complaining about. I can hear the exhaust and music and conversation but have never been able to discern any type of road noise.
