Default Is the 2014 C7 A6 tranny just a carry over of the C6 A6 tranny or are their upgrades?

I could not find much info if the 2014 C7 A6 tranny is just a carry over from the 2013 C6 A6 tranny or were their upgrades on the C7 A6 that was not on the C6 A6.I remember back in 2005 reading how the C7 A4 had upgrades for the one year run of the C6 A4 over the C5 A4. Any info appreciated Dave.

I think if you Google the transmission information for the 2014 introduction you will find there were some mods, including quicker shifts.

However the new eight speed is a big improvement . I still enjoy my A6 and have no personal complaints.

The main thing I know is the torque converter in the 14 is 250~mm opposed to 300 in the 13 down, also some internal beefing of components and a 100ms fuel cutoff between high rpm shifts. The reduction in size for the TC enables a little higher stall. Others chime in please.

Per Motortrend 2014 Annual Edition on the Stingray, here are differences Stingray automatic transmission engineers noted.

1) 8.15 lbs lighter
2) smaller torque converter
3) modification of isolated clutch to improve active fuel management function. Unit now moves 2.5 times faster.
4) smaller torque converter also provides additional driveline isolation to reduce vibration.
5) slightly smaller bell house
6) software upgrade for heavy throttle up shifts.
7) software upgrade to take full advantage of lower gears
8) dual clutch face in contrast to C6 single clutch face.
9) more cooling
10) continuos torque output elimating the slight drop off in the C6.
11) drive mode selection

There was a Motor Trend special edition C7 magazine and a hard cover C7 book I can't find where I put it....that had major articles on how the A6 was tweeted.

Golddog is on it!

Having owned a C6 with the A6 and now a C7 with the A6 not only has the trans been improved, it's noticibly better. My C6 would have to spool up slightly and my C7 doesn't exhibit this at all.

Weren't there only 2 carryover parts from the C6 used on the C7 (cabin filter and roof latch I think)? That would indicate a totally new transmission.

I noticed this on my 2014 Z51 A6 compared to my 2008 C6 A6 without Z51. I was thinking it had something to do with the performance gear ratio of 2:73 on my 2014 A6 Z51 compared to my non Z51 without the performance gear ratio on my 2008 A6. After reading golddogs post per motor trend maybe the tranny itself is noticeably better!

I saw a Tadge video that the A6 transmission had to be made shorter to fit the C7. He wasn't specific but it might have only been the torque converter housing.

The engineers in the article said they did have to move the trans forward in the chassis a couple inches. This was done to make room for the new suspension structure and to provide space for the trans cooler.

The A6 is pretty much the same hardware as it was in the 2013s. I think software was changed a bit for the 2014s. The A8 is a more robust unit made more or less to handle the Z06s robust power band.
