The classic definition of a Grand Touring (GT) car:

An automobile designed to carry two people and their luggage, over long distances, comfortably and at high speed.

I think the Corvette qualifies.

I consider mine a GT car. It is great on the road. In fact it is great everywhere!

You are correct even I think the same as per the definition But,

I haven't seen Chevy has officially mentioned it anywhere that it is a GT car. But some cars like Mustang GT, Nissan GTR has it on its name itself. So I was curious to know.

IMO the best way to describe a corvette is sports car.

Putting the initials "GT" in a cars name is nothing but marketing, and has nothing to do with whether the car is really a GT in the traditional sense.

BMW even calls this ugly, overweight POS a "GT":

I agree....totally my focus on modding this car. I bought it to do the long haul with the total command of a 50/50 balanced sports car:

Base compliant suspension
Z51 rollbars
Sound deadening
Novistrech bra

As opposed to a track car. I think GM has gone to a lot of trouble to make this car BOTH. It was always a sports car but it's both to a better degree now. It's also a muscle car and a hot rod too. I think we are blessed to have a machine that's all these things...one of Americana's finest!

It's certainly a GT platform...without question. It fully defines what a GT car should be and is, in racing. The fact that Mustang and whatever else use "GT" is often a stretch.

The Corvette has great space, everyday function, but is an exceptional performance car...there is no more GT out there than Corvette.

I"m surprised by most of you calling a stingray a GT car. I totally disagree , i consider my stingray a sports car. IMO its not even close to a GT car. GT cars have back seats and are more comfortable, not that i'm saying the C7 isn't comfortable cause it is. GT cars also have more space, an actual trunk and more room.

My definition of GT cars are the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger! Another car would be the Ferrari FF and the Ferrari F12

I've seen this type of debate many times in many different forums. It seems everyone has their idea of what a "sports car" is. Or what a "Grand Touring (GT)" car is. Or a "muscle car", "performance car", "exotic car", "super car", ad infinitum. It seems everyone has their own definition different from everyone else. And they get into arguments on what a particular car is.

According to wikipedia:

A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a performance or luxury automobile capable of high speed or spirited long-distance driving. The most common format is a two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement.

A sports car (sportscar) is a small, usually two seater, two door automobile designed for spirited performance and nimble handling.[2][3] According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the first known use of the term was in 1928.

According to this, the Corvette is both, but probably a sports car more. However, if you want to call it a GT, that's fine with me.

Cheers.

Traditional GTs do NOT have back seats.

What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.....

And the C7 is one sweet car no matter the name, GT or Sports Car!
