When does 2016 "Build Your Own" open?

Apparently not anytime soon. It's completely perplexing to me.
If I ran things:
1. Release order guide.
2. Put site online the same day to allow prospective builds of 2016 model.
3. Release pricing simultaneously so that prospective builds can actually reflect the cost of the vehicle.
4. Accept orders from fully informed customers on the same day.
GM's plan:
1. Release order guide.
2. Leave everything else a mystery.
3. Announce at their big event that orders will be accepted on a certain day.
4. When that day arrives, don't accept orders.

The main purpose of any manufacturer's "Build Your Own" tool is to drive you to dealer inventory, not for you to configure a model that is not yet in production. Remember, 99.99% of cars are bought off dealer lots (or inbound inventory), not custom ordered.

Funny, I've never found the car I would build in dealer inventory. I guess with the few cars I buy, I get too picky and want it my way and not something close.
So when GM puts out the order guide, why ndon't they publish the prices. It can't be that hard and they must already know the prices.

While that might be true for 90% of most other models from what I have seen...this car seems to be different.

Even the vast majority of Corvettes are bought from dealer inventory. Don't get misled by forum statistics, even this very large forum only represents a small portion of Corvette owners.

I doubt that's correct.

OK, slight exaggeration. There were 16,500,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2014. Assume 200,000 of those were customer ordered (I think that number is very high). That would be 1.2% customer ordered. How many Toyotas, Fords, Chevys do you think are actually ordered vs bought off a dealer lot? Even a million customer ordered cars would result in 94% being bought off dealer lots. Point of Build Your Own sites is to drive people to dealers inventory.

Agree. Can only speak for great far north, where virtually all our Corvettes are customer-ordered.....has been for many years....dealers do not generally carry stock...."maybe" a demo. Customers are used to this....repeat Corvette buyers. My dealer sold nearly 100 2014 Stingrays, and Callaways....virtually all ordered by customer. Just my 2 cents.....

I have never seen a number but I have several times posted in various forums that I expect no more than 300 of a particular vehicle line, say Malibu or Cruze or what have you are retail sold (customer ordered) orders and so far no one has set me straight. I admit I chose that number expecting to get corrected.
True, way more of the Corvette vehicle line are retail sold orders, and it seems with the C7 more such orders have been placed than for predecessor generations. but note their are many posts to this forum about a dealer having many Corvettes on the lot yet the poster can not get an order picked. And a salesperson will resist taking one being trained to direct the shopper to what is at hand not some conjectured sale.
As long as Museum Deliver is available a high number of Corvettes will be customer ordered because that is the only way a buyer can pick that option. So in general I suspect Zymurgy is closer to correct than even he believes.
I expect the Build Your Own site will not be opened until after Independence Day but will be before Labor Day. That is my guess.

Chevy Build your own 2016 Corvette
I have to say I'm a little perturbed that Chevy has still not made this site available to the public. Today is 6/29/ 2015, what are they waiting for?
I'm chomping on the bit to see what my 16 will look like with the new wheels...
Does anyone know when the build site will be available?
Thanks in advance,
BacknBlack
