Default Front plate mounting?

So im trying to decide which plate monting to use... Bumper or grill. I a planning on putting on z06 grill and am concerned about airflow issues with plate being mounted in the grill (overheating issues).

Can anyone comment? Can u post pictures of plate mounted both ways

I didn't like either of the factory options. I made my own bracket, that sits lower;

I have the grill plate holder on for the last 10000 miles and in weather over 100 degrees I've had no overheating problems.

I used the Areo mount. Had to drill holes it it? What's up with that? It looks about as good as it's gonna get with a front plate. No cooling issues yet. Probably actually better for aerodynamics and front downforce, or perhaps I watch too much NASCAR.

Problem with the bumper mount is it will scratch the paint. And it's ugly. I had mine on for 100 mi to get it home and I have a little buffing to do to perfect the nose of the car after it was removed. Probably 5 minutes of scratch removal, but imagine if it was on the car for years. It would probably go right through the paint.

Trim the aero panel down to the size of the plate and you will not be able to see the bracket and also allow more airflow around the plate.
I have not had any overheating problems, but I estimated that just trimming the bracket will increase the air flow by 25% over using the stock aero bracket.

I've used the Aero panel in Texas 100+ temperatures and I have not had any overheating issues. This does not include track use. It should be removed when on the track.

Did the same as you. Looks so much cleaner. Now I run no plate at all. That looks better yet! Never was designed for a plate anyway.

I'm using the stock Aero Plate and drove 1600 miles from AZ to WA a couple of weeks ago without any heating problems.

I had a Novistretch bra on and WA requires a front plate so used this procedure to hold the plate on. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1589517863

Worked perfectly.

IMO, the grill mount looks way better than bumper mount.

I will also be cutting my OEM grill mount down to be smaller than the plate. It looks better and will let more air into the radiator.

Top Flight Reproductions also sells a lower bumper mount that looks pretty good if you want more open grill.

If you go grill mount and then change to a Z06 grill, you will have to buy a new grill mount bracket, the fasteners are different.

Right now I don't have my front licence plate on because I hate how it ruins the look and how it blocks air flow to the radiator. I live in a place in CA with very high summer temps. To address the air flow issue I have been thinking of trying to relocate the licence plate to the very side where the grill air flows are blocked anyways. Anyone tried that?

Default Aero cover for Z06 grill

I replaced grill with Z06 grill. You need to buy a Z06 Aero plate and the mounting hardware that goes with it. Then trim the Z06 cover so that it is the same size as the plate. This is IMHO the best you can do if you have to run a front plate.

I have one of these, pricey but worth it as I can easily take the plate off whenever I don't want it on.

Zymurgy, could you or someone else explain what has to be done to the areo plate to use for plate mounting?
Edit.. just looking at it now , never had front plate on yet but I need it at a car show the trooper ticket at. Looks simple just remove the Corvette plastic cover and drill out the hole to mount the plate in the back section of the aero plate.

Correct. The spots the holes need to be drilled are even marked with little dimples.

The problem with lower is - it isn't legal in most states, and it is so noticeably low, the police will pick up on it.
The grill mounted aeroplate is only 7/8" lower than the 18" minimum, so I doubt by eye any police officer could tell - the bumper plate is at 18-1/4" height.
The grill plate looks good and is high enough not to worry about law enforcement.

I'm glad I live in Texas, no height requirement.

Even if there was, I cannot imaging a trooper giving you a ticket as long as there is a plate on the front of the car.
