C7 cup holder mods?

There's a shelf available for the coupe that goes behind the seats and has a couple of cup holders built in. Look in the vendor section and you should be able to find it. Seems like an awkward place to reach, though.

If it's anything like the one that was available for the C6's it's a good idea but the execution wasn't good. The ones for the C6 - the cup holders are too shallow to hold a cup. We end up putting things like our cell phones, wallet, and stuff like that in it rather than cups.

Cup holders don't suck, they are perfect, unless you drink nothing but
BIG GULP and smoothies.
The Corvette museum has insulated classes (12oz) that have lids, and fit perfectly in the cup holder, even with two. Plus they remain cool/hot over long periods. I would recommend taking a look at those, and not have a bunch of other hangy down crap cluttering the very elegant interior. JMHO

The base is, apparently, 5 5/8" in diameter, the inner diameter of the top 3 3/4. I think the base is a lot bigger than the factory cup holder although I haven't gone out and measure it. The base is supposed to be non-skid, and sit on top of the console.
Search Amazon for "cup holder" in the automotive section and you'll find all sorts of adapters that might work in the C7. Especially if you velcro it into the stock cupholder.

I used to put them in when I was driving alone, then remove when the wife is riding along.

This looks like an interesting option. Appears to mount like the Travel Buddy, but folds up when not in use so it won't take away passenger's leg room. but it may be hard to reach from the driver's seat.

use some 3m double sided tape and stick your insert into position so it doesn't tip or move.

Used a dremel tool to modify a Camry cup holder (2007-2011 #X000UKAHS1) bought on Amazon. Not a perfect solution but seems to help quit a bit.
Sorry the photos are dark appears my flash isn't working.

The link has been updated to show an easier method I developed several months ago. It removes the ~3/32 rubber insert at the bottom of the recessed area and is a much simpler way to secure the insert (that tilts as it is designed) to the bottom. When it tilts the water bottle tips out and spills. Now the water bottle I use holds even better. For 2 1/2 years it has held a full bottle in 1 "g" turns and 1+ "g" panic stops. This is an updated 7 page picture PDF. No drilling required: http://netwelding.com/Improved_cup_Holder.pdf

I'm a big believer in simple. Black felt furniture foot pads place as depicted below hold a water bottle or soft drink can perfectly. They also peel off easily with no residue.

I'm glad that your solution has worked for you but I simply chose to go in a direction that didn't require glue, wood blocks, velcro, screws, or permanently modifying an original part of the Corvette. I simply took a spring loaded insert from a Camry, modified it to fit the C7's unmodified
space and put it into place. Works for me. Thanks for your response.
