Can you accelerate real quick not getting in trouble?
Say, you stop on a red light on a street with 55 mph speed limit. When the light turns green, you accelerate like hell and shut the car down when it hits 55 mph.
You are not racing with anyone, you also still within the speed limit.
If there's a cop, will you be stop?
Any thought or personal experience with the above scenario?
Just curious, thank you!

I guess that would depend on your definition of "real quick." Might still be viewed as careless/reckless depending upon how "quick" you go from 0-55 and what is around you at the time. JMHO

keep the exhuast on quite if you have npp, and dont squeal tires .
there is a law against going to fast, even below the speed limit. My friend got a reckless for squealing the tires, he was probably going 30MPH.

@hairball, Yeah, I am talking about doing launch of 0-60 in 3.x or 4.x seconds either with your C7 Stingray or C7 Z06.
@mikelx, wow 30 mph :-) Interesting comment about squealing the tires. Does that mean you will have a good chance of not getting caught if you are not making a squeal but still go in 3.x seconds with an AWD cars like a GTR.
I guess at the end of the day it depends on the LEO???
PS: Just like you guys, I am sure you guys have never done this before right? :-)

Many municipalities have ordinances against "show of speed". That would get ya

Doing a holeshot off a stop light or stop sign will usually get you a good old "exhibition of acceleration" ticket unless the officer is being really cool. If there is a cop nearby I try to exercise a more conservative application of throttle. Also my heads/cam/headers/stall converter c6 with corsa sport is kind of loud above 3500. I was surprised how much louder the corsa is over my previous dual bullet exhaust was at higher rpm and wot.

California, law would be exhibition of speed, which is a two point misdemeanor ticket. If you don't squeal the tires at take off, or when shifting, keep a perfectly straight line, you might have a case to fight it if a cop wrote you up. I would be sure to have a video of your clean, non-squealing tire run to the speed limit to demonstrate in court that it was completely safe for this type of vehicle designed to perform in this manner. No video, then it's your word against the cop and that's 99.9% of the time a losing defense.
If you chose to do it, those are your choices. But be warned that doing so opens yourself up to a cop making a judgement call. That alone is playing with fire. Depends on the cop, the day and his mood.

And be damned sure that if it is a 4 lane street there isn't a car leaving the light/stop sign at the same time or you may get written up for street racing no matter how ludicrous the situation. Last year a friend got a street racing violation leaving a red light where one of the two outbound lanes merge into one. He was in the continuing lane and took off quickly in his C6 Z06 and a soccer mom went full throttle in her Chrysler minivan because habitually she wanted to get in front of any traffic by being first in line at the light in the lane that was ending. It wasn't close but an oncoming county patrol wrote them both for display of speed and racing, he was able to get the racing part dismissed in court.
Yes it was the end of the month when he was written up even though officially there are no ticket quotas

"Always" yes "Always" check the area around you for potential traffic encounters and hidden police. With vigilance there is only a slim chance on an encounter with law enforcement. Off the cuff maneuvers will get you caught. You'll we amazed how tucked in some traffic cops are. In some states police are allowed to track your speed while approaching you from the other direction, that is hard to detect. Two states that I know perform this: Illinois and Nebraska. Happy motoring, keep it safe.

I wonder how long it will be until BMW adds fake tire squealing to the fake engine sound used in some of their current models That would be an interesting court case, "Judge, that wasn't my tires it was my audio system..."

Silly Question - compared to the traffic around you of course you will stand out. Couple that with the appearance of the car - duh, what do you think????

the famous "ricer fly-by". I get them in the Camaro too.
The never realize that it takes TWO to race.
