Well, I read it. I am sure we have not heard the end of this. Its a little hard to believe that I own my 2015 Corvette free and clear yet Chevrolet says I don't really own it. Its not mine to do with as I please. Just try telling that to the Aftermarket World .....

It's the software that's licensed. You never own software, you just paid for a licensed to use it. If it went to court, GM wouldn't be able to prove you do not own the hardware which is yours to do with as you wish. Just my opinion.

Personally, I think this all BS. I can't imagine that GM or any other auto maker would want this bad publicity. If I want to "tinker" with my car, then I will do so. GM can take a freaking hike. I bought the car and what ever the hell was on it at the time of purchase.
In fact, I am on the way the garage to install some electronic mods in just a few minutes.
The other way of looking at this is that if GM thinks they still own the vehicle, then next time I change tires, I will send them the bill.

I didn't purchase a "license agreement" or agree to any EULA.
So, this may be the direction they want to go in the future.
But for now, they are without any claim.

In proprietary software, an end-user license agreement (EULA) or software license agreement
is the contract between the licensor and purchaser, establishing the purchaser's right to use the software.

If you own an iPhone, you own the phone not the Apple software or operating system.
If you own an Android phone, you own the phone not the Google software or operating system.
If you have a PC and it has Microsoft Windows, you own the hardware, not the Microsoft Windows software.
If you own a C7 Corvette you own the car, engine, and the hardware but not the GM software that makes the C7 operate.
It's pretty simple to understand, and no reason to get upside.
Yes, you own the C7. You can sell it, trade it, and collect the money.... it's yours and you get to pass the software on to the new owner.
