Default Tried to program new FOB, now I can't start car!

I need help with a serious problem. I purchased a new key FOB, and programmed it to the car using the instructions in the owners manual for programming when an existing FOB is present. While the doors will now lock and unlock with both key FOBs, I cannot start the car, period.

Regardless of which FOB I use, whether I place it into the steering column slot or not, etc., I cannot start the car.

I tried to start the procedure for programming the FOBs when a working FOB is not present, and I do not get any message on the dashboard at all after doing the "key turn 5 times" thing in the trunk lock.

Now, it appears not only can I not program any key FOBs at all, I can't start the car at all to even take it somewhere for help.

What am I doing wrong? I need help reprogramming this mess or at least starting the car so I can get help!

Man, I wish I could help. I would be freaking out but I guess a flatbed to dealer is an option.

The car is in my garage and I can't even seem to find a way to get the car into neutral to back it out for a tow truck!

Maybe you didn't press the "unlock" button to finish the procedure?

Anyway, read through this step by step programming to see if you missed something:

Perhaps your timing on the 5 times in 5 seconds is not quite right and that's why no message.

For example, my 05 trailblazer has a similar sequence to reset the oil monitor light, but if I press too fast, it ignored/doesn't accept the input; I have to repeat the process until I get it right.

I figured out the issue. I think I sort of locked up the relearn process by accident. Leaving the car and coming back about 10 mins later, the car would start. Then, as long as I put all key FOBs inside the house, I was able to put it into the relearn procedure and accomplish what I originally wanted: to erase any old keys and all just the two I have.

Success! I guess the system timed out after 10 mins or so and let me try again.

Glad you got it figured out!

In the future, if you need to shift the auto into neutral without starting the car...

You need to get the car into service mode:
  1. Foot OFF the brake
  2. Press and HOLD Start button for ~8-10 seconds
  3. Lights and chimes will sound and it will be just like the "old days" of key two clicks forward in the On/Run position
  4. Release Start button
  5. Press brake and shift into Neutral
  6. When done, move back to Park and press Start (no foot on brake) to get out of the service mode (if you don't do this the car will stay on until the battery runs out)

Regular Accessory mode is almost the same, but just press and release Start without foot on the brake.

When you think about it, what was wrong with just using ignition keys?

I would either call dealer to have someone walk you through the steps or maybe chevy service to walk you through the steps.

He allowed too much time between steps and the car timed out. He did it correctly and he does not have a problem now and the RKEs operate just fine.

I spent a lot of time on the link in post #4. Read it, follow it EXACTLY and RKEs can be programmed as advertised.
