Passport 9500 ix positioning
I purchased a Passport 9500 ix radar detector. The instructions for mounting read, "NOTE: Satellite reception is
required to get the most out of your
PASSPORT 9500ix. To receive satellite
data, the top of the detector must have
a clear view of the sky."
Previous to receiving the detector itself, I purchased a mirror mount bracket. After sizing up my install project, it became clear that in order to use the mirror mount bracket, the detector obviously would not have the top "in clear view of the sky."
So, here is my question. If any of you who have the Passport 9500 ix, did you use a mirror mount? If so, what modifications did you do to your mounting bracket so that the top of the detector is "in clear view of the sky?"
Is it possible that the GPS satellite data will still function even though it is not "in clear view of the sky?"
Thanks

I have a 9500 ix installed in the wife's Stingray using the Blendmount mount and it works just fine. I have not had to take any alternative measures, and it does not suffer from any drops in coverage.

You are telling me that your detector is not mounted so that the top is "in clear view of the sky?" If this is the case, I will give it a try.

Have mine mounted with the mirror mount. No problems at all. Reads traffic and speed cams and saves locations. I think a good portion of the front half of the detector has sufficient exposure. What I don't like is the position of the mute button. Very difficult to push. Likes my 8500 as the mute button was on the face.

Been using my 9500ix with the Blendmount and had no issues with GPS reception

I did have a reception issue with my 9500 ix regarding the GPS signal. Contacted Blendmont and they sent me out a "longer arm" (moves detector closer to the windshield) and no more reception issues. Good luck.

Melting Slicks
I have mine mounted below the mirror with the standard Blendmount. I occasionally get voice notifications that the GPS signal is lost, but they are momentary.

I agree with others that blendmount works great, but mute button on detector is out of reach. However, this is not a problem if you use Escort's direct wire smart cord for installation. I mounted the remote mute button by the driver's right knee just under the dash. Easy to reach when need to quiet pesky alerts from Escalades, Buicks others that use k-band for collision avoidance systems.

is there a name or part number you can share? Or, perhaps a picture?

Well, I finished the install with the bracket attached to the mirror. Tomorrow, I will give it the test run. I will say, they forgot to send the company midget along with the bracket. It was sort of difficult to stand on my head and get everything lined up with just two hands.
Since I have a manual mirror for the night dim, I had to skew the bracket a slightly to the right so as to be able to adjust the mirror but I don't think that should matter much. We will see.
Now, I have to sit down and read the directions for the unit itself.
Thanks for the comments. I will let you all know how it works out.

I have a 2LT interior so I have the auto dimming mirror but I found that if I slide the Blendmount as far forward on the mount (towards the windshield and away from the mirror itself), that allows for more than adequate adjustment of the mirror. YMMV....

At times I have been out and about when the detector goes off and I never see a LEO so this explains why!
Does changing the setting to Highway-or some other setting- help to not pick up those collision avoidance signals?
TIA

I have a Blendmount installed on my C7 with a Passport 9500ix...and it constantly goes in and out of GPS. Im getting to the point of regretting installation of Blendmount. Is there a modification to correct this?

Thanks for the extra info in your reply about the collision avoidance systems in other vehicles.
