Default 2014 C7 Front License Plate Attachment

Howdy All,

FYI to C7 owners in Minnesota (that requires front license plate). Chevrolet provided license plate attachment will do damage.

Not a happy camper, message sent to Chevrolet, spoke with dealership today, and just want other owners to be aware. Suggest 3M clear tape around the attachment edges, and clean often.

Bottom line, just a good design for those who need to have front license plate.

And I'm all for Minnesota legislature bill to not require front plate.

Use the aeroplate. You should have gotten one with the car but if not, they are not that expensive and mount in the grill. Lots of posts on here about mounting it - and even a video by "That Cute Ginger"

If you didn't get an aeroplate, go back to your dealer and demand they give you one. It's supposed to be standard with the car. If you didn't get it, the dealer stole it from you.

I'm not fond of drilling hole(s) in my Corvette.

You do not have to drill any holes in your Corvette. This has had many threads. Use an Aero plate, trim the Aero plate to the same size as the license plate.

That would solve the paint scratch problem.

You have to drill holes in the aero plate to attach your license plate but the thing attaches the same way as the other one. Nothing invasive happening to your bumper cover. As already said, you should've had an aero plate in the trunk or it was taken from you. Can be had for $30 or so on Ebay if you can't reason with your dealer. I had that other plate mounted on my car for about 80 miles and it left small marks too. Nothing noteable though. I cold see scuff potential a mile away when I first took at look at the other mount. Really fugly too.

The Aeroplate is awesome. I'm in a 2 plate state so needed it. Very easy to install and no drilling holes to the Vette's bumper

I would tell the dealer you just found out that you were supposed to get an aeroplate with the car. As a result of not getting it, you had to use the plate which caused marks on your front bumper and you want the aeroplate and the marks removed.

If he says he doesn't have one, tell the dealer to take the aeroplate from another vehicle like he probably did with yours.

One word - AEROPLATE

Look at the face of the AEROPLATE and you will see four small dimples, find the smallest drill bit you have and start four pilot holes, then go buy some new self-taping licsence plate screws.

You will need to bend the plate a bit to get it to lay flat when you mount it.

I marked the center of the plate and used the edge on my work bench, doesn't require a big bend, trial fit before screwing it on.

Good luck.

When the day comes I have to use my front plate I will use my aero mount. Mounts easily and actually looks pretty good.

I didn't like either of the factory license plate mounts.
I made my own bracket. It uses existing screws, under the bumper.

I had the exact same problem with my black C7. The clear coat marring buffed out fine by the dealer and I modified the Aeroplate.

Of course Jake would post three pics of his car that have NOTHING to do with the subject of the thread.....
