Default The downside to a big volume dealership

So I have had my order in with my dealership since the 9th of last month.

I send an email in asking for an update. You know the response I get?

"Can you send over the order number please? "

Seriously?

Thank god for the GM customer service link, I can find out myself.

If the moderator could move to the correct section. thank you

I don't know what dealer you're dealing with, but I certainly never had that sort of response from the forum dealer I worked with. So they're not ALL like that.

But even if they were, it's probably a small price to pay for getting a Stingray in a couple of months, rather than 6, or 8, or more.

What am I missing? Did you expect them to remember you? I ordered my Z51 from MacMulkin and I always put the order number in the email subject. I wouldnt consider this a downside. These dealers will get 100 new buyer a month.

I surely don't expect for to be remembered.

However

If I'm asking for a status update on my order. Don't ask me for my order number. LOOK IT UP YOURSELF don't ask the customer stupid questions that you can find out for yourself

In case any salespersons need to be taught salesmanship 101 one of the lessons is you don't make the customer
do the leg work, that is your job. And no matter how many numbers you turn each month, customer service keeps them coming back. A little effort goes a long way.

I can certainly understand your point of view. As the Corvette Specialist and Internet Sales Manager at my dealership, I can assure you that I keep a list of my Corvette customers and their respective order numbers. Having said that, it's quite possible that your dealer has many more orders to keep track of and that the person looking up the info you've requested is someone other than your salesperson. It seems that you providing the order number would be a pretty easy thing to do even if you feel that you shouldn't have to. It's kind of a small thing to get all pissed off at the dealer over.

"I'm at 7/13 with a better dealer than supplier pricing"

And now you complain about them?

If I sent macmulkin an email I put my order code. My dad looked up the progress for me via (I think) Becky at Corvette7 which was cool...

Ummmm....I bought from a very small dealership and my sales person didn't respond back to a single e-mail for 14 weeks.
Figured he had stopped working there, until today when he called to tell me the car had arrived and I could take delivery. First communication from him since March 28th!!!

I know we each think our order is special, but we are just another # to a lot of salespeople.

If you have it, why not just put the order number in the text of the e-mail - seems like it would speed up the request and really doesn't seem like a tough thing to do.

The world is run by computers! The other day ordered a pool pump and when I called the next day for a tracking number, I gave the person on the phone the order number they assigned and was on top of my email acknowledgement. No help in tracking! They needed my phone number! Even my name was not useful! Depends on how they have their information retrieval system set-up. No big deal to give them what they need to do it quickly!

Actually I sent the email and got the response to the salesman I'd been dealing with all along. Though I still didn't expect him to remember me. He could have looked it up very easily.

I'm not pissed. I just think it's a question the salesman can answer for himself. I've learned my lesson though, don't expect anything but the minimum. I'll provide it next time beforehand.

I'm pretty sure they have the last names of the people that have deposits down and orders in.

The world is run by computers, and exactly why this probably would have taken the salesman just as much time to look it up as it did for him to email me back asking for it.

Because ****. I didn't think I had to. They had my last name and email from the email I sent. Guess I had to lead the horse all the way to the water.

Seems like a silly thing to focus on. If you call an airline for a status check of your flight, they ask you for your ticket/confirmation code. Same thing with large dealers. The money that you saved should well offset any "inconvenience" you have experienced checking on your order.

These guys move a lot of cars in general, not just Corvettes. I have my order # memorized, just because I did. And I don't have a complex that I feel I should be treated specially just because I am spending $70K + on a car. I found that if you work with people and are courteous, it pays back with less frustration and getting results quicker.

If they had your name from the email and assumed a certain order number is yours, how would you feel if you were given the wrong status based upon an incorrect order #, due to another customer having the same or similar name?

But to each his own...
