Correct. Autoracks travel on Norfolk Southern from Toledo to the Gibson Yard in Hammond IN where they are broken up and reassembled into trains for various major destinations west, or in my case, north to Canada. At the link below, you can see the yard is devoted solely to assembling autoracks. I'm told that the nominal wait before departing as part of a new train is a day or two.

Gibson is not a town, it is a rail yard in Hammond, IN. Hammond is next to Chicago.

Mine was in Toledo for five days; arrived at the Gibson, Indiana rail yard yesterday at 4:32 PM; and, most recently, arrived at the Proviso, Illinois rail yard this evening at 6:00 PM.

Looks like my rail car is riding along to the Bay Area with others on this thread!

Thanks for clarification. My car seems to still be there, at least as of a recent check.

Mine finally woke up and responded to OnStar yesterday in Toledo but didn't depart. Today is the 10th day it's sitting in that rail yard.

Being one of the first 2016s built it's frustrating. But then I'm sure the rail employees don't prioritize based on this.

I'm sorry to see you continue to be frustrated, doc!

Incidentally, my OnStar was still showing my car in the Toledo rail yard yesterday, when CSX tracking showed my car was west of Chicago, so OnStar seems not to be reliable when the car is on the train.

Thanks. I'll check with my dealer today to see if they have a rail car number. As of 1p.m. Yesterday it was not assigned.

When it woke up yesterday it was in a different spot South of the location than the last time before it went to sleep. In both pics it looks like it's sitting on the rail but that doesn't make sense for 10 days. Maybe it's in a holding lot and was moved yesterday for whatever reason.

It'll be soon Fawk. You are closer than California so you should still get your Vette before the guys farther out West.

I got my rail car number from MacMulkin today! It's on the Norfolk Southern line. I couldn't find directions on how to track that carrier. But I used the CSX directions and it "seemed" to work. The automated system reported that it has no information yet. I guess that means it's not quite moving or possibly not loaded yet but it will be soon.

Was using the CSX tracking system the correct way to track Norfolk Southern? I'm not sure if the response I got was because there really was no information to report or because I was using the wrong tracking system.

I get the same message, so we're definitely (on different cars) on the same train!
