Mustang or Vette?

Mustang or Vette?
Almost bought a mustang gt vert yesterday, loaded for $42000
Been looking at c 7 verts for over two years and used to own c6
But thought I would be thrifty
But am having second thoughts
2 LT with nav is probably closest comparison and even with good discounts probably looking at least $18000 difference
Most Mustang forum owners agree the C7 is a better car but $20000 better?

What answers do you think you'll get on a Corvette Forum?

Yep. Having driven both, it's substantially more than $20,000 better. Just mere appearance alone. That front end of the mustang is terrible. Does nothing for me. But to each his own. I realize everyone has a budget. Good luck with your decision !

I have owned Vettes for 45 years and currently have a '15 Z51 1LT. But I must say the new Mustang is getting better looking all the time. The Vette still beats it in EVERY category in my opinion. Never driven a Mustang. Just saying-get what you like.

If money is an issue than I guess the Mustang is your ride. Really no comparison between the two, the Corvette is by far superior to the Mustang. At least the one you are comparing it to.

First of all - heh, you're posting on the C7 forum? What do you expect? I'll try to be respectful and serious.
The Mustang GT is not the same car at all as the Corvette. If you think they are you either haven't driven them both or you don't care about the differences in which case you should buy a Mustang. In that case save the money and go invest it in something else (like mods for your Mustang maybe - it would be fun to drop even $10k on mods.)
But if you appreciate the difference you'll have to decide if that difference is worth it to you. Do you want 460 ft/lb of torque in a car that weighs as little as the vette does? Do you want the most cost effective way to get this class of car that rivals other costing tens of thousands more?
If that matters to you then the answer is easy. It was for me. I never considered the Camaro or the Mustang or the Challenger or the Charger or the 350Z or a whole host of other cars that aren't in the Corvette's class. I considered the Cayman, the Viper, and the M4 and made the best choice for me.

The new Mustang is a really nice car for the money... an "all go, no show" GT with performance package is about $37K.
Shelby GT350 is MSRP at $48K...
And so on....
None of these cars make any financial sense... they are toys... if you can afford a Corvette, why buy a Mustang?

Well here is a C7 owner that has had both a 2012 Mustang GT and a 2012 Shelby GT 500. The GT is not in the same class as a the C7. Your comparison both in price and performance should be with the GT500 (2014 was the most recent model year). Not sure when they will come back if ever. I liked both my Mustangs. However, the C7 is in a class by itself and far superior in my view. Clearly worth the extra bucks when compared to a 2015 GT.

I agree it is a toy
But I drive it daily to work 70 miles round trip with not that much traffic and it makes the commute fun instead of drudgery
I thought the mustang might be as much fun to drive as the vette but maybe not
I only took it for 30 minute test drive

Coming from the Shelby Cobra Mustang 662rwhp/heavy car.
You've gotta watch everything you are doing, you are in control.
Our C7 A8 took theShelby Cobra light-to-light...can't beat it in endurance tho.
Depends on what you want.
Apples to oranges you're comparing.
The C7 much better handling as the weight is less, more evenly distributed. Body roll is a given in a Mustang/Cobra/Shelby/GT.
One can discuss the different pros and cons of various cars, bottom line, you're really comparing very different cars. Know what you want in a car.
Best in your decisions.
Us? We had the Shelby 662hp, great for straight line/cornering was good, C7 is great. We traded in the Shelby for the ZR1, now we're all content!
Good luck.
And yeah, you're on a CORVETTE forum.....

One turns, the other goes straight.
One gets LOTS of looks, the other is meh.
One handles like a sports car. The other handles like a muscle car.
If money was no object, what would your decision be? Let that be your guide to how your heart is thinking.

If I could not have a corvette my next choice would be a 2016 red mustang GT convertible but I hope I never have to make that choice!
