1 liter = 61.0237 cubic inches

6.2 liters = 378.34694 cubic inches

Technically, it is 6.162 cubic liters rounded to 6.2. Or closer to 376 cubic inches.

Wow we drive a 376 V8. Somehow it doesn't have the same ring to it as a 327, 350 or 427 does.

Beach Boys could make a song from this engine -"I my kicks from my 376........."

327 has a ring to it only because of it's history. In and of itself it's as odd a number as 376. The small block debuted as a 265, then became a 283, the 327, a 302, a 307, a 350 and even a 400. Not all of those are magical numbers.

Mopar had 318, 340, 383, 426 (now there's a magical number!) and 440s. Ford had the 260, 289, 302, and 427 and 428 big blocks.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 350 and 400 versions aren't rounded numbers. If Detroit still advertised in CI, you can bet they'd call the LT1 a 375, not a 376.

Don't forget the 305 chevy small block that was used in other GM cars without any disclosure in 1977. I had a 77 Firebird that got that engine.

Also Pontiacs had a 301, 326 in the LeMans 389 in the GTOs and Fords had a 429 in the LTD I think.

The calculations do not come out because cubic inches is only piston displacement where as Liters include cyl head volume in their measurement for a total volume! If my memory is any good! The 6.5 GTO came out to over 396 instead of 389 using the 61. + figure

The LT1 cylinders are 103.25 mm (4.060 in) bore and 92 mm (3.62 in) stroke, or 10.325 cm x 9.2 cm.

The volume of a cylinder is πr2 x h

So, π(10.325 cm/2)2 x 9.2 cm = 770.29633 cc

770.29633 cc x 8 cylinders = 6162.37064 cc (rounded, 6.2 liters)

1 cc = 0.0610237441 cu in

6162.37064 cc x 0.0610237441 = 376.051 cu in

Could you be a little more specific?

The 307 certainly didn't! Most configurations of the 307 were pigs designed for everyday family cars.
