Default Intimidating view from the drivers seat...

While on a road trip, circumnavigating the western states, I took this shot out my drivers window while heading up the Beartooth Pass (Hwy 212 WY/MT).

It isn't everyday you see a herd of Buffalo walking by your car This is a super neat road to run a Vette over....lots of switchbacks while climbing to the 11K foot summit and then even more off the eastern side.

This is the road going up the western side, the eastern side is twice as crooked;

This is the summit, just a touch under 11K feet;

And just one of the many views off the eastern side of the summit;

It has been an awesome trip; up Hwy 1 on the CA Pacific Coast,

Some more wildlife just outside the backdoor of our friends house in the wine country;

On through Oregon with a stop at Evergreen to see the Goose;

Through Washington State; stopped at the Grand Coulee Dam (too much smoke in the air for any really good shots Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will be taking an early morning run up the Pike before leaving Colorado Springs....Fingers Crossed! If it all works out, I will ad a couple more pics from the top.

This is our 3rd trip with the new car since we picked it up the end of may (3 months ago); the car has already been coast to coast and almost border to border (within 100 miles). By the time we get home the clock should be showing just over 12K clock

Aug 28; got up this morning to clear sky's.....Happy Dance! This is Pikes Peak from Colorado Springs.

This is the valley from Pikes Peak. Some smoke in the air from all the fires in the northwest;

Made it to the top in 35 Mins or so....

Made a few stops on the way down for souvenirs;

Didn't spend much time at the top, wind was blowing and 40 degrees.....besides, walking around at 14K feet isn't for old farts!

8/29; back home after 3 weeks.....here's the final stats.....

5661 total miles with an average of 28 MPG (DIC computed)......Highest mileage (calculated) leg; Cheyenne WY to Colorado Springs = 35MPG (very nice tailwind) @ 70 MPH and somewhat down hill over the 170 miles. Lowest mileage leg; up and back on Pikes Peak road = 18MPG (shortest mileage leg of the trip)

Total fuel used; 202 Gallons with an average price of $3.00 per gallon. Total driving time; 104 hours over 21 days. We spent 3 to 5 days in AZ., CA., and WA. with friends or family, the rest of the time is was pretty much one night hotel stays.

Overall the car performed flawlessly and has lived up or exceeded all expiations during the first 100 days of ownership. I really can't say anything bad about our previously owned Vettes other than the C7 is in a whole other class of it's own.

I'm jealous. The loop you are doing was planned for this September, post labor day. However, with my son back in college for an advanced degree, everything is now on hold. Oh well, unless we have a major earth quake, the left coast should still be there in two years ..........

3 year old Nikon P510...low end SLR type, about $400 new. 16 meg with a 42X zoom, works great for a travel camera.

Hang in there the trip will be worth the wait....September is a great time to travel. All the rug rats are back in school leaving more room on the back roads.

I'm already making a list of the places I had to pass up (Anaconda MT) and want to go back and check out.

Actually I believe your buffalo pics are in Yellowstone Park, not on the beartooth pass which is not in the park. Nice pics though, I get up there many times each year either in the Vette or on the bike.

End of trip, added a few stats for the 21 days. No complaints from this trip; now looking forward to the next one at the end of October when we head for Spring Mountain by way of Sedona and return via Monument Valley.....mid-fall should make for some nice desert photos.
